Good morning gardeners! Wow June is here already. I hope all of your gardens are flourishing. Can you believe that last year at this time there were freeze and frost warnings for the North, Northeast and some of the higher elevations? This year the freeze warnings seem to be contained within a certain household in Tennessee. I just had to say that, couldnt help myself!

...are you telling me fried eggplant goes well with hot sauce? I LOVE hot sauces...habaneros, scotch bonnets, trinidad scorpions...the hotter, the better. You may have just given me an excuse to grow eggplant.
I make a horseradish sauce with mayo, ketchup and spices, that is what I use to dip the blooming onions that I fry. It works for eggplant too. I don’t see why any spicy sauce wouldn’t work — sounds like something to try!
OMG...I LOVE that dipping sauce...my wife can put that together easy; we’ll use the spices she uses in our homemade salsa.
1 cup mayonnaise (I actually use miracle whip)
1-1/2 Tbsp ketchup
1/4 cup cream style horseradish
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
black pepper to taste
cayenne pepper to taste
I usually use more horseradish than the recipe calls for. We like it hot.
Ditto and Amen.
One of my favorite stores in the world is located in Gatlinburg, TN...they sell a horseradish concoction known as 'Nasal Napalm'. Good stuff.
You’re going to put your eye out with that stuff...
Volunteer potato flowering
Hey you got a wide open account here - no lmit!
I have 3 heads — all about the same size. THey developed so fast that I didn’t think theywere ready yet, but they look ready. They won’t win any prizes at the County Fair. In fact they’ll be eaten by the time the County Fair rolls around the last week in July. I guess I should harvest all three right now? That will leave me 3 squares for more lettuce.
That sounds good. Cauliflower & cheese soup.
What are flea beetles and how do you control them?
Try moussaka. It’s the Greek answer to lasagna — made with eggplant and ground beef.
You’ve got holes in your lettuce too. Is that anything to worry about?
Question #4
I’m going to plant squash tomorrow. Zucchini, yellow, and Acorn. I’ve forgotten. Do those seeds need to be soaked overnight.
Thanks in advance.
60 years ago in FResno County my dad would have used DDT but I will have to do some research as I haven't had to deal with them here. I seem to remember that Egg Plant is a diversion or catch crop for them?
That is exactly how many I planted ...
That volunteer potato is a healthy looking baby! Thanks for the photos.
I never do but I do over plant in a hill and then snip off all but 2 or 3. Perhaps other Mid-West gardeners can guide you?
