Me too, hate to be the cleaning that has to clean those seats in the cockpit.

One million pounds PAYLOAD????
Not even close to that.
Maximum TakeOff Weight is around 350,000 pounds. MTOW includes the aircraft, fuel, crew, lunch boxes, beverages, and . . . . .. . payload.

Well, it does take 1,000,000 pounds airborne, it just includes the jet, fuel, people, etc. + the payload.

I think it’s the air traffic controllers’ seats that would be a cleaning challenge — I don’t think they were as calm as they sounded. Something tells me these Russki pilots are perfectly relaxed about the whole thing. It’s not new to them, plus there’s the vodka factor.

There referring to the English Pound ie: like the U.S. dollar.

Pretty terrain. Where is that in Australia?

Good grief. Not exactly a lot of margin for error there. I think the only reason the front wheel came up is because it went off the edge of the runway apron.

No, it does not.
It's Maximum TakeOff Weight is one third of one million pounds, approximately.
Wikipedia lists the Il 76D MTOW as 346,000 pounds.
Victorsite.net says "374,780 pounds".
There is also a streched variant, Il 76MF listed at 463,050 pounds MTOW.
You might be thinking of the An 225
It "takes airbourne" almost four times the original Il 76 MTOW.

Wonder what they do when there's buildings at the end of the runway... During the Cold War our KC-135 Tankers on EWO Alert were so loaded that on a hot day the tires would peel up the painted stripes on the taxiways as they were towed to the Alert Ramp.
The joke of the Alert forces was the first tanker off on a MITO would clear out the GCI antennas and the trees so the others would be able to get off the ground safely and the uplift of the burning aircraft and fuel would help.

They wait until the temperature is cooler and they have a headwind.

Any takeoff you fly away from is a good takeoff.
