I dont watch TV, but I own a few series on DVD that I watch in order to avoid commercials and to watch on my own time.
Im looking for something that doesnt insult my spiritual or political (Christian Conservative) beliefs. And I dont want comedies that exist on juvenile sexual innuendoes.
I love and own the first five seasons of LOST and THE OFFICE. I have the first two seasons of 24, but quit when I saw that the producers are too cowardly to depict Muslim terrorists not backed by white corporate types as the bad guys. I also have BAND OF BROTHERS and the first 10 seasons of THE SIMPSONS.
I was thinking of getting the first season of SCRUBS except Im uncomfortable watching with my 16 year old daughter because of the frequent sexual situations.
I heard good things about CHUCK.
Any suggestions for a series I can get into?
One of my favorite brit coms...
Waiting for God.

I need to contact my local PBS station. It’s been years since they ran those episodes. Need to do it again.
‘Dead Like Me’ is a good choice, though the language is unnecessarily rough. The insights in teenaged anger and alienation are unparalleled.
Features Mandy Patinkin as the “father”. As I do for NCIS, I watch it just for the wisecracks he inserts as he enters scenes.
‘Years’? They’re running right now on the PBS station not fifty miles from my house. Along with ‘Keeping Up Appearances’. I don’t think they’ll every stop.
They did finally stop showing ‘Last of the Summer Wine’, for which, many thanks.
The Wire was very good, but it does contain adult content.
LOVE this show!!!!!
Did you forget “Dragnet?”
I thought it was slow getting started because it took a while for the leads to find their comfort zone. When they did, it took off. Stephanie and Graham are simply brilliant, IMHO. Good choice.
I’ve purchased and watched the following three EXCELLENT British series recently:
* Rumpole of the Bailey
* Piece of Cake
* Foyle’s War
* Danger: UXB
I’m sure you’ll love them. Like you, I like nothing better than firing up the DVD and watching an episode without any commercials.
More on the Waltons:
Here is an interesting review of this good moral family, and some of the decisions they must make, and there are listed a few other good series

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching this collection. I watched them, at least some or them when they were first produced, then have seen many in re-runs , but not in any certain order. This time, I watched from day 1 all the way through 9 years. I never realized how much history could be learned from the series, getting a bird’s eye view of the Great Depression and then the start of the Nazi takeover in Europe and eventually the US involvement. Everything was historically correct, not just the script, but the sets and props as well. Occasionally you could catch a prop or 2 that would have been impossible in the early 1940’s....like plastic! I watched the complete series of Little House on the Prairie, then the complete Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, before I watched The Walton’s. This was like a history of the US starting at the conclusion of the War Between the States all the way until`the mid-late 20th century. I purchased these video sets with the intention of selling after watching, but now I plan to keep them in my collection. Would be great to watch every 5-10 years to compare things then with now, especially politics and civil rights which are surprisingly the same.
All seasons of The Waltons / / 2010-02-12
Would highly recommend for families. Our 8 year old granddaughter is already hooked. She stayed with us one weekend and we ended up watching over 6-7 hours of The Waltons. In this day and age of so many problems it is refreshing seeing a family sticking together and overcoming obstacles with love and caring.
Also, 'The Prisoner', with Patrick McGoohan.
He returns to the force and while working on a new case every week (with a zen viewpoint), he continues to try to find out who the real murderer is. The cop is played by Damien Lewis, who played Lt. Winters in Band of Brothers.
I love the British series Monarch of the Glen. Quirky Scottish family, sane son returns home to take over the family estate. Very nice series.
I dont know if Burn Notice is on DVD but I have seen it on te net with my children and it was appropriate.
Speaking of AMC - how about Broken Trail? It was only a two-evening show, but absolutely wonderful.
Also, Lonesome Dove is outstanding (I love Duvall playing anything western).
also Firefly and the movie serenity which ends the series...for now.
I have enjoyed the new V.
If you like Sci-fi, check out Babylon 5.
The best sci-fi (and possibly series) ever made. EPIC story arc, continuing plot lines, great characters (Garibaldi, Ivanova, and Alfred Bester FTW), action, just great TV.
Gerald McRaney was excellent on that show.
NCIS, House
Great suggestions!
I watched a few minutes of DEADWOOD. Did they really talk like that in the Old West? Seems like Scorsese wrote the dialogue.
I’m weary of Organized Crime stuff so I’ll skip THE SOPRANOS.
I own Ken Burns THE CIVIL WAR as well as BAND OF BROTHERS already.
SCTV was great but a little outdated.
I never liked THE HONEYMOONERS or I LOVE LUCY.
I'd say "Sarah Connor Chronicles" as well.
Classic "Star Trek" never gets old either.
