Tomato’s are very forgiving...

You can root the piece that you pinch off. Just put it in a glass with water. You actually can root the suckers if you are a sucker pincher.

You can try to tease the roots apart on a couple of plants and repot them just to see if they will thrive.

The broccoli is fairly hearty too. I’d try to split a couple of plants up and repot them just a little deeper than they were before.

We had a year without summer last year.. I’m hoping not to repeat it.

Oh, please take a picture of your flower pouches at the church. I’d love to see that.

There are some mini tomatoes which do well on a windowsill. Most tomatoes will do ok in a 5 gallon bucket, but moving them gets tricky. It’s not the weight of the bucket, it’s the length of the vines!

Real sunlight is the key. I have 5 tomatoes that I’ve been growing in a big plastic storage tub/homemade earthbox under artificial light for almost a year and a half, and even though the vines are 8-10 feet long, they’re only just now producing their first tomato. I’d love to put them in a sunny window, but the only room safe from the cat is my bedroom, which is on the shady side of the house. I’ve decided this is research :p

Wow! Your lettuce looks awesome!

Why thank you. It's taken me years to get it. Some was from seed but most I bought the plants.

And, I resorted to one of those pop-up green houses. That seemed to do the trick! No more squirrels digging everything up, bunnies eating everything, and not too many bugs. The 5' x 5" fits very nicely over my 4' x 4' raised beds. I have 2 big ones and 2 smaller 3'x 3' that I modified a bit to fit over the beds, that I just used till things go started.

Will try to get some pictures once my phone recharges.

Depending on the growing medium you used, they can often be teased apart and replanted.

I’ll try your method on some of them. Actually, I have more plants than I can use, so I dont know what I’m whining about. I’ve offered the extras to friends, and they are not interested. But there is something deep in my soul that says “Waste not, want not”, and I hate to throw away a perfectly good plant.

I had a neighbor who used to yell at me when I was planting petunias — “Pinch those back by half, and you won’t be sorry.” I’d always try to leave the blooms on, and she’d always catch me and yell at me again.

The bugs are probably the poo eaters.

I’m adding that to my list of “raise your own as soon as you can”. Tilapia is supposed to be one of the easiest eating fish to raise, according to the aquaponics forums.

China-raised catfish is another one to avoid.

Start looking around, and be surprised to see what foods come from China these days. I recently purchased garlic at Sam's Club, and was astonished to see that it was grown in China.

Ha - that is so funny. You must be feeding your cats well.

I had my first srawberries yesterday and they were yumbo!

Wow, a little late getting in and almost 200 posts! It is a warm day at 78F up here at 8500 ft elevation in the Colorado Rockies. No leaves yet on the fruit trees yet. Waiting to see if they survived the winter. The Cherokee Purple tomato that I dug up and put into a container last fall before the freeze is over the top of the 4 ft wire cage and hanging over back down to the ground. It has 4 tomatoes on it with one about baseball size.

Hey, is your dog an English shepherd, aka farm collie? She looks like one, and I have one I bought in southern Indiana.

Scary smart dogs, they are.

I bought Maggie from a breeder east of Columbus, about half-way to Nashville.

I have exceeded my Flikr limit so I can't upload the photos I took at Church last hour but here is one of the Pouches on our home last year. I may purchase a larger Flikr account so I'm not restricted...

My FRiend and his wife compete in Agility events with Australian Shepherds and she is #1 in most events and he always qualifies in the top 5. His Jo-dee is 10 and is in the 20” class and her A-S is 2 and is in a shorter class. My FRiend is 67 and his wife is 68 and they have been married for 50 years this month...

We had an Austrian Shepard years ago...He was stolen right in front of the children....Broke our hearts. The kids description of the vehicle help them find the thieves, but we didn’t regain their pet.

I hate to exterminate a good plant too.

I’ve rescued quite a few plants from the scratching of squirrels and dogs.

Most have done suprisingly well.
