May 20, 2010 Washington, D.C.) - Mexico's president addressed a joint meeting of Congress on Thursday, urging members to work toward fixing the immigration issues that have plagued the border relations of the neighboring countries.
In his call for reform, though, Calderon denounced Arizona's recently amended SB1070 law, which requires law enforcement officials to question during a "lawful stop, detention or arrest" people suspected of being in the country illegally.
"I strongly disagree with the recently adopted law in Arizona," Calderon said to a standing ovation from the members of Democrat Congress. "It is a law that ... introduces a terrible idea using racial profiling as the basis for law enforcement."
Now let's see what he said on CNN yesterday.
May 19, 2010
WOFF BLITZER: So if people want to come from Guatemala or Honduras or El Salvador or Nicaragua, they want to just come into Mexico, they can just walk in?
CALDERON: No. They need to fulfill a form. They need to establish their right name. We analyze if they have not a criminal precedent. And they coming into Mexico. Actually...
BLITZER: Do Mexican police go around asking for papers of people they suspect are illegal immigrants?
CALDERON: Of course. Of course, in the border, we are asking the people, who are you?
And if they explain...
BLITZER: At the border, I understand, when they come in.
CALDERON: Yes.
BLITZER: But once they're in...
CALDERON: But not -- but not in -- if -- once they are inside the -- inside the country, what the Mexican police do is, of course, enforce the law. But by any means, immigration is a crime anymore in Mexico.
BLITZER: Immigration is not a crime, you're saying?
CALDERON: It's not a crime.
BLITZER: So in other words, if somebody sneaks in from Nicaragua or some other country in Central America, through the southern border of Mexico, they wind up in Mexico, they can go get a job...
CALDERON: No, no.
BLITZER: They can work.
CALDERON: If -- if somebody do that without permission, we send back -- we send back them.
BLITZER: You find them and you send them back?
CALDERON: Yes.
too dumb to know how dumb he sounds to Americans ... he thinks if he reads Obama-Speaks teleprompter he will be fine ...
It’s what happens when you have to talk to those who are not your natives ...
It helps if I proof it before sending.
What fun is that? :=) WYSIWYG posting – the only way to go!
The worst part about all this is that he was just parroting the President AND he got a standing O from the Rats in Congress.
What is wrong with these people?
In Deep Mexico, Everytime you go to a hotel, you have to let them see your passport and visa. They report you to the government.
This is different from the border region mind you.
Our Hotels don’t have to report on immigration status, but in Mexico they do.
I know that you’re not lying, but is there a transcript somewhere of this? I want to intellectually snipe some liberals I know... :)
Mordidas - the lifeblood of the Policia.
Calderon does not believe the US has the same rights as Mexico. They see the US as a territory to colonize, nothing more.
Calderon.
Amusingly, I think the name actually means 'Hothead'.
Wow. CNN? I’m shocked beyond measure. No sarcasm intended.
Yes well how about we just do what you do ???
Send them back...
The hotels in a lot of countries ask foreigners to produce their passports; the US is one of the few countries that do not follow this practice.
If you're Calderon its actually not hypocrisy to believe that his people deserve special rights illegally entering our country while punishing those who enter his illegally.
They've never gotten over the Mexican War over a 100 years ago and do not believe that a huge chunk of our southwest IS American. They have always believed it is rightfully theirs, taken from them by force. If you have this wrongheaded view: its not hypocrisy.
If you ask me its time for Mexican War II.
I don't think so. Heard these sound bites on Rush a little bit ago. I think the guys frame of reference needs to be taken into play here. He see's Arizona as part of Mexico, Atzlan and all that. So in essence, to HIM, Arizona's law is a no-no because it prevent's Atzlan "citizens" from moving freely while Mexico still has to protect it's borders.
apparently, “calderon”
Well, alrighty then. Should be no problem-o when we send your border-hopping people back where them come from, no?
No wonder they come here. We have work; we have free education.
Mexican citizens are required to carry proof of citizenship. Inside their own country. So this is a phony controversy, and while I like Calderon, on this issue he is being a big phony.
He is implementing a new high-tech national ID card system that he fought for. He considers it to be very important that they have a reliable means of tracking who is and who isn’t a citizen in Mexico. But suddenly once they’re in Arizona, its a human rights violation to ask them for the same ID that Calderon considers so important when they are on their home turf.
We don need no stinkin Mexicans
