A Letter to the Left
myself (vanity) | 5/5/2010 | moodyskeptic

Posted on 05/05/2010 7:49:27 AM PDT by moodyskeptic

Okay, I've had it. I'm finished with the loony Left. Polarization, the political gap between liberal and conservative, is now a canyon without a bridge. When liberals took power riding Obama's bandwagon of popularity, they went crazy with lust for dominance.

I kept my mouth shut as legions of my fellow Americans (some even close friends) turned zombie, talking glassy-eyed about their Dear Leader as if he were their democrat messiah. Converts to political activism, these people were formerly NOT involved or politically AWARE, so they over-compensated with childish enthusiasm.

It was hard to watch as the media and the entire entertainment industry joined the madness, and the inauguration was a macabre spectacle. I bit my tongue, figuring this won't last long, the potion will wear off soon and America will self correct.

Half the nation was sick with this new utopian daydream, saying inane things like "we're in post-racial America" and "Yes We Can™".

Hope and Change, an ill-defined platform if ever I saw one, was really a blank slate for 50% of America to write it's dreams on. World peace, green energy and jobs, no war, paid-for health care... some even thought that Obama would somehow pay their mortgage, many saw his election as the start of a new nation.

A nation where the poor get back at the rich, where big business would finally pay for it's perceived sins, where oil companies, the police, banks, car companies and insurance carriers all finally feel the sting of ridicule and ruin.

Me, I find it tiresome. It reminds me of my college years listening to some late night pot fueled diatribe against the system. Yeah, man, when the people take power, man, we're gonna legalize pot and there'll be no poor and everyone will just ride bicycles and, umm, you know. Pushed to the brink, I'm declaring right now: the left's utopia is a naive daydream, soaked in Marxist rhetoric and painted with a friendly "green" motif. Snap out of it, people on the left! Admit your mistake, chalk it up the mindless enthusiasm for a well-marketed candidate that it was. Cop to it.

Do this before the sane half of America forces the democrat party into oblivion. You rubbed our noses in Obama's victory long enough, now it's time for the adults to run the nation again. Adults who are conservative more than republican. The Tea Partiers you ridicule are now forcing the republican party to change, to read the Constitution, to enforce the law, to listen to We the People (not the drug burnouts who were always malcontents). Change is comin' and it won't look like your utopian socialist fantasy.

You Obama zombies are so 2008, you're yesterday's fad. You had your fun. You almost ruined our great country with your ineptness and heavy-handed social engineering. Party's over, sleep it off, go home and we'll clean up this mess (as usual).

No, don't act shocked and don't get all defensive. We all know it was a lark, a drunken all nighter. It had no basis in logic, it was anti-intellectual because it was hero worship. Your Obama daydream fizzled, like all mindless liberal enthusiasms fizzle.

Beat it! Go back to "community organizing" where you can do little harm. No need to apologize for this tremendous mistake, just GO.

The idealism of leftists fails because they don’t realize that most people DON’T want to live in their utopia. I will never give up my SUV. I like my air conditioning. Hamburger and steak taste gooooood. I work hard because I want to support myself and my family and I want to live in comfort. I will never work hard to support some toadstool who injects recreational drugs all day, doesn’t bathe, and who thinks he is entitled to the fruits of my labor because he has a flawed epiphany where others support him.

You’re right. I used to be in their ranks, I guess I’m a Reagan Democrat who never went back the the democrat party after learning to reason. I still travel in liberal circles and these folks DON’T KNOW anybody who disagrees with their utopian dream. Against all logic, they simply assume we all want what they want. The tension between the 2 Americas (left vs right) is getting tighter, something’s gonna snap.

Great post, moody. and excellent response, RB
Those of us who have “had it” are large in number and growing.
We have to stay mad, disgusted and p**sed off. Defeating the regime is our only hope.
When I get discouraged, I try to imagine the scowl on Reid’s face when he gets defeated, the shocked frozen face of Nazi when the Dems lost the House and Senate, and the best of all: the arrogant disdain turned rage on the faces of the First Narcissist and his sidekick, Bigfoot.
Just think MO, you won’t have to pretend to like us after your husband is defeated. You can go back to the frizzy bun that you used to wear. And you can stop pretending to eat healthy(and try to make us comply with your orders to do so as well) and let that copious butt of yours hang out. No more suicide belts!

Piaget was a theorist in developmental psychology. He identified a stage during infancy as preoperational egocentrism. A defining characteristic of this stage is that the child believes that if he perceives the world in a certain manner, the rest of the world must certainly perceive it in the same manner.

I firmly believe that the ranks of this current personality cult that we call 'liberalism' are filled with adult children, victims of arrested development, people who never got past the preoperational egocentrism stage.

Once they finally grow up and see the world from a mature perspective, they invariably become more conservative in their values and worldview. If they fail to launch, they become 60-year-old hippies who burden society with their idiotic, childish behavior.

Yes indeed.

It seems to me the "2 Americas" used to be Republicans and Democrats, but Obama has managed over a short time to make it an openly declared war between the private sector and the public sector. This is a much more personal rift than mere politics, it hits home for all of us with more intensity. This is now a battle over PROPERTY-the coercives versus the coerced.

Do we have the numbers necessary to change things in 2010 and 2012? If not, I agree something will "snap" for sure.

THIS is why I love FreeRepublic, intelligent responses by the country’s smartest people. You are right, it IS about property now that I think about your point. We’re in a public versus private sector tug-o-war! At my last Tea Party event, I carried a sign: defund the government.

Lenin died in 1924 and there are more useful idiots now than ever in history. I suspect that few of these useful idiots will wake up to their folly until after passing through the door to the “showers”.
