Just a message for the Anti-Palin crowd

Posted on 04/21/2010 9:12:01 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

To those of you who go into every Sarah Palin thread with your anti-Palin talking points and repeating everything you hear on ABC, NBC or CBS.

I have a question for you personally. This is a personal question.

What are you doing to further our cause in a time of grave national and international crisis ?

Have you traveled to dozens of states in the last few months ? (Sarah Palin has)

also,

How is the view from the peanut gallery ?

and

How is the breakfast with your Democratic friends down at the local Holiday Inn ?

Please get a life. You are doing nothing to further our cause. Do some soul searching, it must seem like a worthless existance spending your time on the net attacking one person with such vigor and such venom. I hope for a big purge and I hope it is soon.

"you make too much sense"

I have stayed out of these debates over Sarah as it is too early to be settling in on a perspective candidate for 2012. While I like her personally, I do not see her as having a consistent conservative ideology. She seems to have conservative instincts but will wander astray when a policy appears to line up with something she supports. This was certainly the case in her 2007 support for the Law of the Sea Treaty because she thought that it would help us out in laying claim to Artic energy resources. It also seems to be a factor in the positive response from the Alaska National Education Association to McCain choosing her. They cited the fact that "per-pupil spending having risen during her nearly two years as governor" and that she "is opposed to sending public money to support private schools through public schemes like vouchers." These are NOT conservative positions! I do not think that it is a result of a liberal ideology either. The Alaska NEA President chalks it up to her "father, mother, and brother having worked in public schools". She has a personal connection with public schools which leads to policy positions that are anything but conservative. Her personal feelings on a matter appear to trump ideology. Given that she talks more in generalities than specifics, it is hard to tell how many other issues would be decided in such a fashion, but I am not interested in finding out. She is doing an excellent job rallying the base in opposition to Obama and the Dems. I think that this role is a better one for her.

Actually I am not a minority but you keep telling yourself just that. Just because people like Sarah Palin doesn't mean they'll back her up as a presidential candidate. She will continue to have everyone's support but don't confuse support with endorsement.

Right now there is not a single candidate which stands out. Going out as a third party will ensure our loss in 2010 and 2012. We need to reclaim what's ours from the GOP RINOs and boobs and Sarah has her role in making it so... just not as a candidate.

“Not if you include her continued support for the Bush bailout and the claim in her book that the GOP House opposition to this bill “hurt the cause”. How on earth can she be considered the one who is leading the revolt against big government when she threw those who stood up to this big spending proposal under the bus???”

Two things:

1) I haven’t noticed her support the Tarp bank bailout after the 08 election campaign. If you have a link that shows her doing that and a date, I’ll stand corrected.

2) The primary action that Bush/Paulson took during the economic financial meltdown was the TARP action where they bailed out banks in crisis.

Now, I disagreed with this action, but why are we still bitching about this? It is the only thing that has worked. It stabilized the banking system and 99% OF THE MONEY HAS BEEN PAID BACK WITH INTEREST.

This is something that we need to keep in mind as it didn’t cost the taxpayer a dime.***

On the other hand, Obama’s Porkulus is money down the drain that has done nothing to create jobs and all of his other actions are job killers.

Well voting for Hunter when your options are McCain, Romney, and Giuliani is a different vote than when you have a conservative to vote who actually gets more than 3 percent.

“Romney is FINISHED...Romneycare has Bankrupted Massachusetts”

Actually Romney is only Dead in the General election against Obama. He is the frontrunner and odds on favorite to win with massive Establishment Republican support.

“Any more non entities you care to throw up here to justify Palin?”

Yeah reality is a beeotch. Do you have anybody as conservative that is credible and get actually get votes nationwide? I’m all ears. (crickets)

You guys want to give Romney the nomination...go ahead, but don’t think you’re going to get away with bitching about it. I’ll be here to tell ya “told ya so”

"1) I haven’t noticed her support the Tarp bank bailout after the 08 election campaign. If you have a link that shows her doing that and a date, I’ll stand corrected."

She did so in her book on page 270: "The House of Representatives rejected a Bush-backed economic bailout plan in a vote in which two-thirds of Republicans voted no. The impression this made on the electorate was not helpful to our cause. Millions of Americans were poised to go bankrupt or lose their savings, and the perception was that Republicans had failed to respond." Not only is she sticking with her support of the bailout here, but throwing those brave GOP House members who opposed it in favor of a free market alternative under the bus. It was not their opposition that "hurt the cause" but support for the measure. Polls showed that an overwhelming number of Americans opposed it and McCain's support dropped when suspended his campaign to lead the fight for it. Sarah could have dissented like she did on drilling in Alaska, but chose to go along with the plan and later to criticize those who opposed it. This is not the actions of a leader of the movement for limited government.

"2) The primary action that Bush/Paulson took during the economic financial meltdown was the TARP action where they bailed out banks in crisis.

We are still "bitching" about it because it was a big government proposal that directly contradicts the principles of limited government. We still "bitch" about Romney's past support for big government proposals and rightly so.

I had Dr. Walt Williams on as a guest for a local radio program at the time and he ran through a number of problems with it. By bailing out those who failed, we did not allow for more efficient competitors to rise up and replace the failures. We also set a precedent for other even more unwise bailouts.

Since I’ve read most of the book, I read that section closely. Look carefully at what she says. The context is explaining how the campaign went from being up 4 percent in the polls to the loss of support after the economic implosion and the vote in the House where GOP members voted against the Tarp bailout.

1)That is not post election support for the TARP.
2) More importantly she talks about perception of the hurting American voter.

***Her quote:

“The *impression* this made on the electorate was not helpful to our cause. Millions of Americans were poised to go bankrupt or lose their savings, and the *perception* was that Republicans had failed to respond.”

That’s not support.

You clearly say above that if Palin doesn't run for president then we are stuck with Romney as candidate, possibly as president. But you are doing it in a way that sounds like sjb and mkj have the responsibility for Palin running (I have seen this argument before many times )when in reality they are likely to have little, if any, effect on the nomination.

But really your argument is putting a huge responsibility on Sarah Palin herself. It says that she MUST run for president, and effectively , or she it is she electing Romney, much more more-so than (our borderbots) mkj and sjb or even rabs.

RE :”A lot can happen in three years.

Really a candidate for 2012 will have to announce within a year (by ~ March 2011) to avoid the Fred Thompson fate, which I see as the Romney/McCain-nightmare scenario. It goes : (2011) Palin doesnt announce, Romney is leading in polls, Palin is pushed in by supporters too late October 2011, ...Romney gets it, conservative voters stay home, Obama wins

But to your point about things changing, it makes me wonder why there appears to be a civil war on this current hypothetical scenario(Palin vs Romney) given we know things will change in a year or so.

My two cents (well, maybe a dime’s worth)...

I hate what Romney stands for (RINO politics, not America 1st) and I love what Palin stands for (just the opposite of what Romney stands for).

I don't know what's going to happen, but it sure seems like Palin's interested in getting into something with her leaving the governorship to basically be a clear conservative voice in this ever-increasingly muddled-message universe of ours. I sure hope she runs if she hasn't decided to already. If she feels pressure, so be it. So did Reagan, who at first didn’t want to run for Governor in California. After that, there was no looking back.

Romney would be a disaster. Someone needs to come along and reverse the Bush-Obama big government/economic disaster. I think Palin would do her best. If she feels pressure, maybe that’s good. As far as the Thompson thing, Thompson’s failure was mainly, it seemed pretty obvious, that he didn’t want to be there (strong hints his wife made him run – kind of funny, really) and his heart wasn’t in it. He seemed relieved to be off the list of contenders.

Palin, I would expect, would be more like Reagan, and if she decided to go for it (seems like she already has, but maybe not) would go full bore, never look back, and take this thing. If Sarah stays Sarah and speaks from her God-loving and America-loving heart to the regular guy and gal the way Reagan did, there’d be no stopping her, in my view.

“You clearly say above that if Palin doesn’t run for president then we are stuck with Romney as candidate, possibly as president.”

My opinion is that Romney is the frontrunner and will win the GOP nomination. He has the Primary set up for a RINO, he has money, organization and huge establishment support.

Nobody is going to beat him because conservatives are divided and the conservative with the most support and chance to knock of Romney is Palin.

Those who incessantly attack Palin can do what they wish...but they won’t be crying about Romney without alot of input from me to remind them that they get an assist.

Hey, maybe I’m wrong in my assessment. Nah. watch.

Nothing is going to change in the GOP Primary...look at the history of the GOP Primaries.

The Establishment in the GOP have chosen their loser, Mitt.

I cant disagree with your first argument above (the McCain selection really got me upset) and at the same time I have no crystal ball so I can not make an absolute prediction right now about 2012.

But if Romney is certain to get it anyway(like McCain in 2008) , then why the fuss about a few Palin critics. Your argument makes Palin critics completely irrelevant after November, if not before. Yet there is a huge effort being made by many to marginalize them(the poster of this thread wants them banned) . That makes them look important, you know, like threats to something.

BTW: Of those that get mad at the Palin-critics, few post that palin cant win it against Romney, in fact most post the opposite.
