WASHINGTON - The most influential national tea party group, backed by a $3 million campaign war chest, surprised Idahoans by endorsing freshman Rep. Walt Minnick's re-election bid. Not all local tea partyers were pleased.

Minnick is the only Democrat in the nation to land an endorsement from the Tea Party Express, the most prominent national organization in the burgeoning political movement.

I’d like to see the record that makes Minnick a “conservative” Democrat.

Have you ever been to a tea party? Have you read the platform? They have said, since the beginning, they will endorse the candidate who will follow the Constitution. PERIOD. They have said this isn’t a Republican or Democrat thing, it’s a PATRIOT thing.

That being said, most of the effort is of course in the Republican party. We were succcessful here where I live to sign up so many people for precinct committee positions which is the first step in taking back the party. But this endorsement is nothing surprising.

If this guy voted for Nancy Pelousy to be House Speaker, he should be voted out of office and should not be supported by the Tea Party.

I am seeing signs of a tendency to focus only on tax issues. If the Tea Party Movement fails to include RKBA and abortion as prime issues it will start fading fast.

Why is it not surprising? Does his voting record justify this? I’ve seen no reports for a dissenting Dim in the House, but that does not surprise me.

"We don't know where the national tea party came up with the endorsement of Walt Minnick," said Russ Smerz of Tea Party Boise. "It's a little concerning to us that Tea Party Express would endorse someone in the state of Idaho without consulting us first. We're not endorsing any candidate at this time - including Walt Minnick."

I guess you could consider him fiscally conservative:
"Foster said Minnick suspects the endorsement came in part because of his voting record on fiscal issues: He voted against last year's economic-stimulus law, cap-and-trade legislation and the health care overhaul. "

sounds like a plan.
Tea Party endorses the RAT in any election, Then votes for someone else.

I think for myself, thank you very much. I do not purchase products because a sports legend endorced them. I do not send money to causes pitched by Hollywood actors. I do not vote for candidates that are endorced by movements.

Sounds reasonable. I like those votes.

Endorsements have to be practical. Even if there’s no good candidate in the race, somebody’s going to win.

In this case, it may be that Minnick is the best of the available choices.

ID-1 is one of the most conservative districts in America. No way there should be a Democrat in that seat. This is outrageous. The Tea Party Express can kiss my patootie.

Exactly.
And the Republicans can always run a true conservative against him.
Much better than having a flaming marxist elected by 51% of the vote.

While at the same time voting yes on Green money to schools ($40B), expanding S-CHIP, $2B more for Cash for Clunkers, more ethanol subsidies, cutting oil exploration subsidies, and raising taxes on “wealthy” Americans. It sounds as if Idaho can do better.

Problem is, by supporting a Deomcrat, they’re helping Pelosi maintain her speakership and the Democrats their majority.

Folks, it’s time to get our heads screwed on straight. The time for this “I’m non-partisan” bull hockey has ended. Find conservative REPUBLICANS and vote for them. Voting for a Dem, even a conservative Dem who voted against health scare and porkulus, is still enabling Pelosi and Co. to maintain a majority and forward their opposition.

Where would the Obama agenda be today if each of those 38 “conservative Democrats” had instead been replaced by conservative Republicans? Where would the Dem majority be? Where would Pelosi’s “mandate” to rule be?

Hmmm...

If his NRA and RTF ratings aren’t that good, I’d have to say he’s a token. Will he vote for a repeal of the HCIReform?

Getting out in front of the Soros "plant" that could split the vote?

Ooooooooo! Strateegery. I like it.

Then the people of Idaho should have no problem replacing him with a more fiscally conservative representative.
It's just an endorsement.
And obviously the tea partiers aren't going to be told what to think.
That's why they're out there protesting, instead of home listening to MSNBC.
