BOURNEMOUTH, England, April 10 (UPI) -- A British mother, her son in a coma, thought she was saying goodbye to him for the last time -- until he woke up and opened his eyes, observers say.
Nick Verron, 26, was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver during an unprovoked attack last July 4 in coastal Bournemouth, England, The Daily Telegraph reported.
Verron's mother, Sue Vincent, had given permission to doctors to stop the drugs that they believed were keeping her son alive. Instead of dying, Verron started breathing independently, opened his eyes and within weeks was able to sit up and talk again.
Speaking from his wheelchair Friday, Verron said, "There's no medical explanation for what happened to me -- it feels like a miracle," The Daily Telegraph reported.
Jason Teelin, who was 17 at the time of the attack, has been jailed for seven years.

“His wonders to behold...”
Maybe stopping the drugs saved him.
Wow! That’s all I can say.
Similar thing happened to my wife’s grandmother. She had a severe head injury from a fall. Everyone said their goodbyes and the family gave permission to withdraw all the drugs. Once the drugs stopped she woke up and lived another 8 happy years.
Lot of that going round in Britain. Could it be because their rights have been systematically suppressed along with the tools to defend themselves?
Paging Michael Schiavo. Michael Schiavo, pick up the red phone, please.
Aww, that's so adorable that they pretend like they needed her permission. I wonder if British dentists pretend the Tooth Fairy is real.
I thought the same sting? Drugs are given sometimes to put a patient into a stupor, allowing the body to heal itself.
Honestly, with advances in medicine happening at a rapid pace, people should think twice about pulling the plug. With adult stem cell research in particular.
Who is Jason Teelin? If he was the attacker how could've he have done this if the attack was last year and "he's been jailed for seven years"???
Fact Checking ????
That had me blinking like a mole in a sunny parking lot, too.
This is the new math! I missed it. I learned to count with my fingers and toes! /s
Believe that’s the British way of saying he’s been sentenced to 7 years.
I am surprised the NHS would keep him alive that long. Or have to get permission to let him go.

I always think of Terri at times like this.
If the travesty health death bill becomes fact,
nobody will be safe from tube removal.
It’s something they should investigate.
Praise God!
Sue Vincent, had given permission to doctors to stop the drugs that they believed were keeping her son alive.

The drugs may have been contributing to and sustaining the coma.
Best wishes to this young man. I pray he has a full recovery.
