Mom says goodbye, son wakes from coma

BOURNEMOUTH, England, April 10 (UPI) -- A British mother, her son in a coma, thought she was saying goodbye to him for the last time -- until he woke up and opened his eyes, observers say.

Nick Verron, 26, was stabbed in the head with a screwdriver during an unprovoked attack last July 4 in coastal Bournemouth, England, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Verron's mother, Sue Vincent, had given permission to doctors to stop the drugs that they believed were keeping her son alive. Instead of dying, Verron started breathing independently, opened his eyes and within weeks was able to sit up and talk again.

Speaking from his wheelchair Friday, Verron said, "There's no medical explanation for what happened to me -- it feels like a miracle," The Daily Telegraph reported.

Jason Teelin, who was 17 at the time of the attack, has been jailed for seven years.

Maybe stopping the drugs saved him.

Similar thing happened to my wife’s grandmother. She had a severe head injury from a fall. Everyone said their goodbyes and the family gave permission to withdraw all the drugs. Once the drugs stopped she woke up and lived another 8 happy years.

during an unprovoked attack

Lot of that going round in Britain. Could it be because their rights have been systematically suppressed along with the tools to defend themselves?

"Verron's mother, Sue Vincent, had given permission to doctors to stop the drugs that they believed were keeping her son alive."

Aww, that's so adorable that they pretend like they needed her permission. I wonder if British dentists pretend the Tooth Fairy is real.

I thought the same sting? Drugs are given sometimes to put a patient into a stupor, allowing the body to heal itself.

Honestly, with advances in medicine happening at a rapid pace, people should think twice about pulling the plug. With adult stem cell research in particular.

Who is Jason Teelin? If he was the attacker how could've he have done this if the attack was last year and "he's been jailed for seven years"???

Fact Checking ????

Believe that’s the British way of saying he’s been sentenced to 7 years.

I am surprised the NHS would keep him alive that long. Or have to get permission to let him go.

I always think of Terri at times like this.

If the travesty health death bill becomes fact,
nobody will be safe from tube removal.

If that was you, what do you say to your Mom? Would you thank her for deciding to pull the plug that according to the doctors was keeping you alive? Thanks for trying to let me die? The intend result from her decision was death, but consciousness was what happened. I am certain his Mom wanted her son to live healthy and happy. It will make a good story you can laugh at years and years later ... Hey Mom, remember when you pulled the plug on me, but then I lived? . ... I dont mean to make light of the situation, but... wow. I know the Mom anguished over the decision, and I am surprised England let this victim live that long anyway, (since health care is rationed as a government budget issue) I'm glad it worked out for this guy and his family.

It’s something they should investigate.

Sue Vincent, had given permission to doctors to stop the drugs that they believed were keeping her son alive.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

The drugs may have been contributing to and sustaining the coma.

Best wishes to this young man. I pray he has a full recovery.
