Argentina is one model. But Lithuania is another.
The collapse is coming. This Healthcare bill makes it a sure deal. We just have to work hard to make sure there is a good replacement system. A hot back up. A federal or confederated system ready to replace the death of the Bankrupt National system.
I am trying to think of any example of a country that transitioned from socialism/communism into a stable, free society. Hard to do. First of all, I can’t think of many free countries. Thatcher gave it a go in the UK, but even she could only go so far after 11 years.
Not easily, it took almost a century for the Eastern bloc countries to throw off the shackles of Communism, a few are doing OK now, but none like what we would describe as free- only relatively free compared to what they came from.

Great point, thanks. Many of the Eastern Europe former Soviet countries are tending towards freedom. Another reason to thank the Lord for sending Reagan.
I believe you will quickly see some sort of underground system pop up- it usually does in these situations. Something like a black market of health services where people can get care without going through big brother bureaucracy.

You are absolutely correct. There will be Cash system and the insurance system. There will be lower levels of tax compliance and disrespect of the rule or law. Very similar to what you see in Europe. None of which helps stave off the Fiscal crisis facing the country.
Paul is a fool. The government will take over all businesses and we’ll all be working for the state. That’s the plan.

An economic Collapse would see:
1) several prosperous states probably split....Texas along with the states that border it....
2) Canada breaking apart
3) Mexico goes immediately into civil war
4) Race riots that make the 60’s look like a picnic
5) The rest of the world enters a new Dark Ages...who’s going to buy their crap.....
Without federal money, how the hell would Washington STOP any succession movements.
how do you propose to stop it? The Bankruptcy I mean. I just don’t see any way to avoid it.
As much as we complain about the size and waste of government, I’m pretty sure about one thing.
The government is not big enough to actually run the country.
If they tried, it would just collapse out of the inefficiencies.
We are going to default on the debt - either through outright repudiation or hyper-inflation. Given the total force of deflation occurring right now, hyper-inflation would require the US gov't itself issuing unbacked greenbacks.
Either way, I just don't see the fed.gov surviving for the very simple reason that there won't be enough economic output to support the military. Right now, the warfare state goes along with the welfare state because it pays the bills.
However, when it becomes evident that there isn't going to be sufficient funds forthcoming, the DoD will have to make their move. The nice thing is they do have a clause about enemies, foreign & domestic.
The big question is whether or not the military leadership would be smart enough to get out of the way and let the state's resume 99% of the governance (with DoD providing nat'l security) or would they try and go hog?
If they did that, then we'd have a long insurgency, one in which it's hard to imagine the military coming out on top. So, in the end, I think they'll be smart and let the whole thing quickly devolve to the states except for maintaining an adequate external force.
Of course, this means that all troops come home - no more forward bases nor perpetual wars. No matter how it turns out, it's definitely gonna be interesting!
With all of us slaves of the state, it will be big enough to do a really poor job of it.
The bankruptcy is the least of our worries. Prepare to live in a communist country, comrade. If the current administration has any say in it, that’s what will happen.
People wouldn’t tolerate the inefficiencies.

The point is not whether Dr. Paul is right or wrong, but whether there is a regularity in the sequence of economic events that makes the coming bankruptcy inevitable and predictable. “Other things being equal” if we continue on the current economic course, the country will bankrupt itself, and all the attempts to provide health care welfare will become futile. Personalities will have nothing to do with it.
