Evidence of Mormon Participation in Mexican War Found

The recent finding of a 19th century silver bracelet in Alamo Mocho, in the desert of Baja California, represents the first material evidence of presence of the Mormon Battalion, which camped at the site before integrating to the 1847 Mexico-United States War (Mexican War).

The discovery took place after a sandstorm uncovered archaeological material. Specialists of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) began exploration at the site afterwards.

The jewel represents a clear testimony for Mexican and American historians that Mormons camped in Alamo Mocho approximately for 3 days, before their integration with the 1847 war, fact only stated in documents until now.

Archaeologist Antonio Porcayo Michelini declared this at the Baja California Archaeology Analysis Table that took place recently in Tijuana, Baja California. He detailed that a bifacial stone knife was found as well, which could be more than 8,000 years old. Other material found consists of Yumana ceramics, fish bones and other mammals’ rests.

Archaeological research conducted in December 2009 counted on with participation of students of the National School of Anthropology and History (INAH), Mexico City, and resulted in the finding of the silver bracelet.

“A sparkling object caught my eye: it was an exquisite silver bracelet, with the Ten Commandments in ancient English and the front and back covers of the Bible carved; 2 angel hands adorned the fasteners”.

“Apparently, the owner of the bracelet was a Mormon soldier part of the battalion. Looking for water, the contingent integrated by 500 men, in charge of Lieutenant Colonel Philip St. George Cook, camped at Alamo Mocho in January 1847, on their way to San Diego, to help United States Army invade California. The government offered to award them with terrain in Utah and Nevada where they could freely live according to their religion”.

Alamo Mocho, near Mexicali, Baja California, has been studied by INAH since 2007, but it was in December 2009 that systematic and extensive exploration began, which consists of covering the zone, collecting superficial archaeological material and conducting first excavations.

Other material found in the nearly 6-hectare site, according to Porcayo, is evidence of the passing of human groups attracted by the water wells that allowed survival.

During the next months, the bracelet will undergo research that might determine who the owner was, by consulting archives such as rosters and detailed registers made by Mormons, concluded the archaeologist.

Battle of the Bulls

While stationed at Ft. Huachuca AZ, just a few miles away from this great victory. Mormons made sure they had a good sign at the location. But it was nothing but a lot of bull.

It looks Lutheran, with the Catholic-style praying hands and English translation of the 10 Commandments. Why is this so important? Isn’t there any other proof that the Mormon Battalion existed?

BTW, I’ll never be over Macho Grande, either.

“archeological evidence for the Book of Mormon”

I guess you know what happened to the Mayans. Do tell.

By the way, hubby and I went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit a couple of years ago when it was in San Diego. They had these brass plates that were very interesting. And one of the documents had the name “Alma son of Judah” which is the first time the name Alma was mentioned as as a man’s name.

Saundra,

You write, “archeological evidence for the Book of Mormon” “I guess you know what happened to the Mayans. Do tell.”

I laughed when I read your post.

We know, first of all, that the MAYANS ACTUALLY EXISTED!

They left cities, archeological objects, a written language, art, architecture, mathematical systems, and astronomical systems. We can see them today. We can touch them and study them.

Show me ANY archeological evidence in the Americas for any of the great cities the Book of Mormon claims existed here. There is not so much as a single metal object from the claimed foundries, or any of the cities, or any other objects a large civilization always leaves.

In short, there is not evidence for the work of fiction referred to as the Book of Mormon.

“They had these brass plates that were very interesting. And one of the documents had the name “Alma son of Judah” which is the first time the name Alma was mentioned as as a man’s name.”

Pffft. The Dead Sea Scrolls have nothing to do with Joseph Smith’s fictional work.

There are 951 people in the United States with the name Alma Hernandez. Will you claim that also supports the BOM claims, since the surname may mean they come from the Americas...?????

You strain at gnats to try to link anything historical to mormonism. Show us the overwhelming historical evidence right here of the claims in the BOM. There ISN’T any.

SD - the mayans are not the peoples of the bom. If this was the case, the major archaeological organizations would have to recognize the fact. It isn't, it is a fabrication generated by Sorenson to try to maintain faith.

You made some lucid points, especially the absurdity of these “ancient civilizations” not leaving a shred of archeological evidence compared to the Mayans. It is obvious that Mormon followers have to work hard to shut out what they know –internally- to be truth. It is human nature to remain in denial when one has so much invested in a scam. Pride and even nostalgia are tough to break. The Mormon church has its captives in great bondage.

Mormonism is not just a work of “fiction”, it is a work of EVIL- because it denies the captives of this cult the opportunity to have a relationship with the true God and indoctrinates its victims with the specious lie of the evil one – the lie that you can become a god. I pray that the one True God will be revealed to those ensnared by the lies of the scoundrel Joseph Smith.

Oh, I guess you know what happened to the Mayans - why and how their civilization vanished from the face of the earth. Was it disease, was it war? The Book of Mormon has an explanation.

I was reading the Book of Mormon last night and marveling at the fact that Joseph Smith could not have made it all up; that would be impossible, though he was obviously a very intelligent man. No one could have dreamed up the Book of Mormon. If they had, and if they had an agenda, they would have come up with stories that made God’s people look better. But instead, it tells the truth about God’s people’s foibles and missteps . . . you know, like the Bible.

I love the Book of Mormon. I used to be afraid to read it and believe it because of the way I was raised (Southern Baptist) and all the anti Mormon preaching and teaching I was subjected to. I am glad I opened my mind and my heart to the Savior and to the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I am so happy.

WRONG!

Satan could easily make up the book of mormon, appear to Joe Smith as an angel of light, and lie his butt off. As he apparently did.

No offense, but you come across as a brainwashed cultist.

Now, on to the main point.

The mormon church has no savior. Only the Jesus Christ of the Bible, who was God from eternity and not some broken man who became a god, could possibly be a savior. Instead of mindlessly repeating drivel, think Saundra!

If what the mormons teach about Jesus were true, He couldn’t be the Savior. If He wasn’t the Savior, you deny the central message of the Bible. And the mormon church DOES deny the Savior. Nothing to be happy about there!

“No offense, but you come across as a brainwashed cultist.”

Now why would I take offense at such a statement?

You keep saying that the Jesus I love is not the Jesus of the Bible, not your Jesus. I thought Jesus died for all sinners. Silly me. In our faith we believe that Jesus Christ is the Great Jehovah of the Old Testament and the Savior and Redeemer in the New Testament. The Book of Mormon is another Testament of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church.

If you want to continue to accuse me of being a brainwashed child of the devil, I would like to say something. Jesus Christ is my personal Savior and He is my Judge. Without Him I would truly be lost forever. I believe in Jesus Christ and He is my advocate with the Father. I believe in the Holy Ghost, too, who ever lives to draw us closer to Heavenly Father and His beloved only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ. I love the Holy Ghost!! I don’t think Jesus Christ likes it very much when people call Heavenly Father’s children evil names. And I know the Holy Ghost doesn’t like it either.

But it’s a free country. You can continue on your merry way. You are only hurting yourself.

What I don’t get, is that even if such a bracelet DID belong to a Mormon (which I personally doubt since it has so much Christian symbology), WHY are they acting like they found evidence of something earth-shattering? If the Mormon regiment was historical fact, what’s the big deal?

Trying to sell papers I guess. There have been books written about this and pension applications in government archives. Even other artifacts exist:

But maybe if it's your own history, these digs are real news.

FWIW, any faith community is bound to produce artifacts that may not necessarily correspond to its theological orthodoxy, so I wouldn't discount this as a Mormon artifact.

“You keep saying that the Jesus I love is not the Jesus of the Bible, not your Jesus. I thought Jesus died for all sinners. Silly me.”

Saundra,

You claim to be a mormonite.
You claim to love Jesus Christ.

I don’t doubt the first. I take you at your word.
I don’t know about the second. Here’s why:

Are you saying you love Jesus Christ, who is revealed in the Bible: Eternally God, not created or made?

- OR -

Are you saying you love the Mormonite Jesus, who started as a created spirit child, became just a regular human, then worked his way up to godhood?

If you are answering the first, GREAT! If so, come out from among the cultists and be holy.

If you are answering the —> mormonite jesus,< — your statement is meaningless. In that case, you are believing in a jesus that can NEVER save, nor have died for anyone. A strictly human Jesus, who was created, would have his own sins to pay for.

The real Jesus had an eternal life to lay down and no sins of His own to pay for.

Mormons use the NAME of Jesus Christ, but they DENY His Nature - the very nature that allows Him to be the Savior of all who believe in Him and accept His gift of grace through faith.

In short, mormonism teaches a different gospel that the Apostle Paul condemned as FALSE.

If you are sticking with that heresy when you speak about your happiness, it is you who is hurting yourself, eternally.
