Fish oil makers, drugstores, sued over supplements

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) – A group including a California nonprofit organization is suing fish oil manufacturers and pharmacies that sell the popular supplements over their purported toxicity.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in San Francisco Supreme Court, claims that the makers and sellers of certain supplements found to contain high levels of PCB compounds -- man-made industrial chemicals -- have failed to alert consumers as required under California's right-to-know law.

The Mateel Environmental Justice Foundation, one of three named plaintiffs, tested 10 fish oil supplements out of more than 100 on the market. The other plaintiffs in the case are New Jersey residents.

Defendants include the world's largest producer of omega-3 fish oil, Houston-based Omega Protein, as well as drug stores Rite Aid Corp and CVS Caremark Corp.

Ah. This is part of an orchestrated campaign. Note that just last week, McCain started pushing to give the FDA jurisdiction over all vitamins.

If you control the food supply and housing, they control you. This is all an effort to centralize all sustenance and control it so they can dictate to you and remove your freedom. Slavery is making a big comeback..

According to ConsumerLab.com and Consumer Reports, there are no such concerns.

On the upside, less fish oil equates to higher cholesterol and tryglicerides and will shorten the hippies' lives in the Frisco area. Bye, bye, idiot statists!. I sincerely hope that all those who are opposed to supplements just die off, that includes Senator McPain.

As free people, we have the RIGHT to swallow whatever pill we think is best for our body. Labeling is good; restrictions are bad.

Recently, there have been a couple of stories reporting how dangerous it is to take multiple antioxidants, high levels of Vitamin C, cereals enriched with vitamins, etc. I believe these stories are just setting the stage for a FDA takeover.

When a drug company wants to push a drug, such as a drug for breast cancer, the media is flooded with stories about breast cancer and Dr. Gutpa is interviewed on TV. Lo and behold, miracurously, a new breast cancer drug appears on the market. Same with cholesteral drugs, anti-depressants, etc. “Ask your doctor if you should take blah, blah, blah.” Half the time, the TV viewer doesn’t even know what the drug is for, but he’s supposed to ask his doctor for it.

"No standards for PCB levels in the U.S." ...

No wonder they chose that contaminant in these supplements.

Full Disclosure: go with molecularly distilled, anyway.

cheers!

SET THEIR LOCAL AND DC LINES ON FIRE!

PLEASE ASK THEM TO REPEAL THE BIG NEW FEES in TRICARE for Life, the retired Military over 65 secondary health ins. which they passed in a DOD bill. They promised our Military these benefits, and our Military have earned them.

TRI CARE FOR LIFE This from a google search:

http://economicspolitics.blogspot.com/2009/05/tricare-for-life-is-obama-trying-to.html

This option would help reduce the costs of TFL, as well as costs for Medicare, by introducing minimum out-of pocket requirements for beneficiaries. Under this option, TFL would not cover any of the first $525 of an enrollee’s cost-sharing liabilities for calendar year 2011 and would limit coverage to 50 percent of the next $4,725 in Medicare cost sharing that the beneficiary incurred. (Because all further cost sharing would be covered by TFL, enrollees could not pay more than $2,888 in cost sharing in that year.) http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/99xx/doc9925/12-18-HealthOptions.pdf

Congress plans to block Tricare fee increases

Tricare fee increases imposed last week by the Defense Department will be repealed by a provision of the compromise 2010 defense authorization bill unveiled Wednesday by House and Senate negotiators.
Snip The fee increases were announced on Sept. 30 and took effect on Oct. 1, but the defense bill, HR 2647, includes a provision barring any fee increases until the start of fiscal 2011.

Snip

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Bill Matz, president of the National Association for Uniformed Services, said the announcement of fee increases was shocking considering that the Obama administration promised earlier this year to hold off on any new fee Tricare fee increases until fiscal 2011.

“President Obama and DoD assured NAUS and the entire military family earlier this year that there would rightly be no increases in any Tricare fees” in fiscal 2010, Matz said. “We took them at their word, and I can’t believe that a co-pay increase like this was allowed to go forward,” he added.

It seems to me that this is the opposite of the McCain-big-government solution. When someone does you harm you take them to court. If you prove your case you get compensated and the one who did the harm gets the publicity. The free market solution.

And think about all of those drugs constantly advertised on tv, they all have side effects. Think of all the pyschiatric medicines that are around including ritalin which is being passed out like candy to our kids. But vitamins - watch out they can kill you.
