This poster doesn't get it.
Conservatives are so consistently, so often, so very right. So clearly.
About so many things!!
Why is it, so many are so blind to what is happening to our nation, as a result of our historically STUPID trade policies?
Is it that conservativism is by definition a resistance to too much change, and that "free trade" was a cherished belief for so long there's simply a resistence to noticing it's become dangerous?
Is "free trade" more important, than America?
Because the way we're going, that is the choice we already are making... Right now in front of our eyes.
Wake up people. Please.
Free trade is one thing. What we have is managed trade.
Also there is our overtaxed, overregulated, and over unionized industrial base that needs to be taken into account.
BTW I agree with you but its not a simple thing.
No free trade with tyrants is my only rule.
Free trade is freedom. Non free trade is govt interference in the free market and results in price fixing.
Well, bankruptcy is also freedom if you really think about it.
How is bankruptcy related to free trade ?
Ahem.
As in lack of money.
every US president sells away jobs in the US,
to buy,
cooperation in foreign policy from other countries
Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose.
Why exactly are you opposed to free trade ? Loss of manufacturing jobs or loss of foreign exchange from buying from abroad..or both ?
Right.
Why exactly is it, other countries are not selling jobs to America, for OUR cooperation?
Perhaps because they, unlike you, are familiar with basic economics...?
The premise of your question is conservatism being against ‘change’. This is incorrect.
The American Revolution is not the Constitution and Declaration of Independence. The American Revolution is the New World overthrowing the dogmas of Europe. The Revolution was the demise of the monarchy, the demise of aristocracy, and the demise of Human beings as passive objects subject to the designs and whims of would be political overlords.
The purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to sever the ties to that Old World. And the purpose of the Constitution was to insure the Old World ways of that tyrannical cyclical past do not resume.
What does this have to do with free trade? Everything. States have free trade within one another, just as individuals have free trade with one another. Much of the Revolutionary War was about colonists not being allowed to free trade. Compare this to Europe with their un-free trade which existed until recently.
There is no such thing as ‘Fair Trade’ because fairness does not exist in the real world and, especially, in the business world. If someone in another part of the world is willing to work less than you do, you must compete with them.
In the 1980s, car companies went to President Reagan and demanded he stop the Japanese car companies. Reagan told them they had to compete. Atari complained that the Japanese company called Nintendo was stealing their audience. They were told to compete.
Conservatives are not about conserving anything other than the Constition. The true name for conservatives are revolutionaries.
Liberalism is nothing more than the oldest dogmas executed in the newest ways. Liberalism is the Old World. Liberalism sees the Constitution as an obstacle because the founders designed the Constitution as, in Obama’s words, as negative rights.
Government is restricted not because people are evil but because people are good. The general populace are good and, on their own, will seek to improve their own lives and do not need a king to do it for them. The Big Government people believe Humanity is sinful and needs to be ‘corrected’ by the power of the state.
Unfair trade, Global Warming, environmental policies, labor policies, and on and on, all tenets of liberalism have this code: Mankind is guilty.
But Mankind is not guilty. The only thing that is guilty is the powers of government. This is why the Constitution divides the power into three branches and pits them against one another.
Free Trade was the reason why the American Revolution was fought in the first place. And even though the war is over, and the founders are all dead, the revolution continues to this day. America defies history and the Old World.
Society is not a unit and is not an artificial contraption devised by a philosopher king. We are people who are equal to any leader or ruler.
There is no such thing as ‘society’ without trade.
To better society, we must ruin government.
Not true. It's not the president's job to stop jobs from moving overseas. He has no power over it other than threaten to tax companies that do so, which is usually an empty threat.
LICE LICE LICE LICE
Just keep saying that over and over. LICE stands for Libertarians Infiltrating Conservative Entities.
LICE are stupid. Really. Thats it in a nutshell. Big “L” libertarians are just plain stupid. They have created this anarch-capitalist Garden of Eden where nearly all gov’t interference is bad. They do not believe in limited gov’t. They believe in NO GOV’T for all intents and purposes.
Their heads are so far up their own rear-ends it is pathetic. Their candidates can not run on a platform of “ No social security, no minimum wages, no child labor laws, no workers comp, no wage and hour laws, no OSHA, no FDA, no medicare...etc.)
They would be laughed from the stage or worse, tarred and feathered. So like parasites, they latched on to the conservatives, I think maybe in the late 60s or early 70’s and it has been down hill ever since. The middle class has been under increasing pressure. When it got so bad that Bush signed the bankruptcy reform bill, I switched parties and became a democrat.
This guy explains it real well. I wish I had discovered him sooner. It took me years to work out on my own what he has come up with. I promise you that you will enjoy it:

parsy, who has been preaching about this for years
Such ignorance of American history. The Republican Party of Lincoln through McKinley adamantly opposed free trade, in favor of building up American industry. They understood that free trade was the British Empire’s way of looting the rest of the world, and trying to prevent the U.S. from becoming an industrial power. The U.S. Whigs and Republicans used to know that. No more. Today’s “conservatives” are actually 19th century Democrats.
If you doubt it — you can look it up.
Basic economics.
Such as, two generations ago America had the largest, most magnificent and innovative manufacturing base in the history of earth.
We led the world in science. Technology. Manufacturing. Inventions. Education. Standard of living. Just about by every measure we were the best.
What has “free trade” brought us?
We have lost our lead in science. Our technology is made in China. Our manufacturing base has been destroyed.
We only invent things to outsource them, immediately.
Our education system s_cks.
We’re broke. Our unemployment rate is soaring, and we are forgetting how to make things.
THAT basic economics???... :-/
/s
If American companies cannot manufacture goods in America that Americans will prefer over foreign made goods for whatever reason, then manufacturing doesn’t belong in America. Those out of work from manufacturing jobs will just have to make themselves productive in another line of work.
My experience is that those who most oppose free trade are labor unions and labor union workers who don’t want to have to actually compete.
After complaining about jobs “being shipped overseas”, the anti free trade people will usually spend a whole lot of time citing trade deficit numbers that they really don’t understand at all.
