Such ignorance of American history. The Republican Party of Lincoln through McKinley adamantly opposed free trade, in favor of building up American industry. They understood that free trade was the British Empire’s way of looting the rest of the world, and trying to prevent the U.S. from becoming an industrial power. The U.S. Whigs and Republicans used to know that. No more. Today’s “conservatives” are actually 19th century Democrats.

I love the trite argument that if someone is willing to work cheaper then we must compete, even if they are a Chinese slave or a defacto slave. There is nothing wrong with a little structure and rules.

The constutution enshrines independence above all. The trans-national businessman should not be allowed to do thing destructive to America.
