Colonel (O-6)
Navy Captain (O-6)
I miss your point - why cap women at 0-6?
No. I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish.
Are you talking about our country or your’s.
I think the US has moved beyond such stupid questions.
I won’t judge on sexes, but how about limiting the rank of musicians?
Why should band members become field officers or zebras?
Retired Army Platoon Sergeant, here. I was a SOLDIER first, a PATRIOT second and a God-Fearing FEMALE, a distant third.
You, however, are an idiot.
Having worked for a female 0-8 (Major General) in the USMC, I will just say that your suggestion is without merit.
Politicians and bureaucrats, whether uniformed or civilian, male, female or androgynous, will make these decisions. I think our armed forces were more effective before political correctness made them a tinkertoy for taxpayer funded sociological, bloc political posturing.
Why, for heaven's sake, would you suggest that? Just what do you think it would accomplish?
Do you think imposing a 'glass ceiling' on servicewomen is 'sexist'? Is it 'unpatriotic'?
No, just stupid.
Regards,
She retired as an O-6. Years later while I was serving under any number of less than lustrous stars, I realized she'd have made a damn fine general officer.
I am opposed to women in combat units. However I have no problem with women generals.
If you have an actual cap on promotions then you no longer have a glass ceiling.
This is one of those “no win” threads. In a nutshell, if women are currently barred from direct combat duty, then they should be prohibited from commanding such a unit. There are however, many fields open to women all they way to the top. These selections are not usually taken lightly. They are well qualified officers in most cases, just like men.
Military officers on the “flag track” get different training, exposure, education, and respnsibilities. As a Navy vet, I don’t think I would want a woman commanding a carrier battle group. Not because she is arbitrarily unqualied due to gender, but because she doesn’t have the right “tickets” punched.
As long as the politicians dictate where women can serve (and this can change admin-to-admin), it makes little sense to groom a woman for a billet she may not be “allowed” to serve in.
(Dianna, I’m generally on your side, so go easy on me!)
Just plain stupid. If they do the job correctly, promote them. I can’t believe this thread...
It appears this idea requires some further consideration.
or not.
No capping necessary, bring back the WAC!
It's a waste of talent. Many women can and do operate successfully at flag rank.
No, whatever for.
You’re an idiot.
Did you know there is a Navy destroyer named for a female Admiral? The USS Hopper - DDG-70.
Ever her of Computer “compiler”; the term “debugging” or the “COBOL” language? Thank Admiral Grace Hopper.
That would ban Sarah Palin from serving as C.I.C.
