Jethro Tull announce 2010 tour dates

ethro Tull has announced an eight-city North American run in June. The band will kick off their dates on June 4th at Miami's Bayfront Park Amphitheater and wrap things up on June 20th in Highland Park, Illinois at the Martin Theatre At Ravinia. Along the way, Tull will play a two-night Canadian stop on June 18th in Toronto, and June 19th in Windsor, Ontario.

Frontman Ian Anderson says that above all else Tull's shows make for a great night out: [ Click to listen if you have a backstage pass] "It's a party atmosphere; people are relaxed. You know, they want to hear the old hits, they want to hear the, you know, new stuff, they just want to have fun. And for us, it's a good opportunity to play them the whole, the whole Jethro Tull history. In a two-hour show, we try and cover all the ground, from the old stuff through to the new songs. And, and we have a lot of fun. You just wouldn't want to shake hands with us afterwards, 'cause we're like bars of soap -- we're so wet with sweat and sticky."

Jethro Tull tour dates (subject to change):

June 4 - Miami, FL - Bayfront Park Amphitheater

June 6 - Mashantucket, CT - MGM Grand At Foxwoods

June 11 - Wantagh, NY - Nikon At Jones Beach Theater

June 12 - Atlantic City, NJ - Caesars Circus Maximus Theatre

June 13 - Holmdel, NJ - PNC Bank Arts Center

June 15 - Boston, MA - Bank Of America Pavilion

June 18 - Toronto, ON - The Molson Amphitheatre

June 19 - Windsor, ON - Caesars Windsor "The Colosseum"

June 20 - Highland Park, IL - Martin Theatre At Ravinia

Fat Man and Geoffery Goes to Leister Square are the 2 that immediately come to mind when I think of Tull.

Other songs follow, but those 2 are the first. STAND UP is the best albumn.

Don't get me wrong -- I love a good pork chop. If you opined on a Springsteen thread that you loved Springsteen's music, I'd resist being a swine and insulting your taste in music; I'd keep my yap shut. Why did you choose to insult we Tull fans' taste in music? You couldn't resist being a swine, and snarked with a mindless drone cliche that tells me that musically, your comprehension is on the level of a kindergartener. When the music played in your earshot, it was like casting pearls before swine.

If you think that my pointing it out makes me a "swine," that's your problem.

A funny story about the album "Aqualung"...

A friend of mine is a mastering engineer in LA who was scheduled to re-master Aqualung. He spent close to a year searching for the Original Master Studio tapes but to no avail. Finally, he receives a call about 3am - it was Ian Anderson saying he found the masters in his garage. Amazingly the tapes were in good condition except for a small section ~ 1 minute into the title track where the tape had been stretched. A simple splice from a copy solved the problem. Listening to the "stretched" section is kinda funny - like Ian's voice is really S-U-P-E-R S-L-O-W.

Anyway, it was funny when my friend told the background story.

"Living in the Past" is the only 5/4 time tune I can think of to be a mainstream hit . . .

"Money," by Pink Floyd is another.

What remaster is this? I assume it was all-analogue vinyl, nobody would bother with the original tapes for a CD>

The remaster I spoke of is the out-of-print Gold CD on DCC and mastered by Steve Hoffman. Easily the finest sounding version available on both gold CD and vinyl.

The DCC version by Steve uses the original analog masters for the highest quality sound and does NOT use compression or noise reduction - both harm the sound quality.

http://www.amazon.com/Aqualung-Jethro-Tull/dp/B00000018N/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1266064784&sr=1-1

Steve's current work can be found on Audio Fidelity & Analog Productions labels including the latter's extensive remastering of classic jazz albums from the 50's & 60's using the Original master analog tapes. Simply amazing what Steve can do - "Breath of Life" he describes his masytering methods. Good guy, too.

Well, now I’ll be humming Aqualung the rest of the day. :-)

I am really digging playing Aqualung and Hymn 43 on my Rock Band. Gotta get me a mic stand so I can sing as well when I’m playing. My all time favorites, though, are Baker Street Muse and No Lullaby followed closely by Thick as a Brick (the whole thing, not the shortened versions)

Relax, you're acting like a Jethro Tull fan. I enjoyed them back in the day. I was a very big Who fan, too. Loved Tom Petty. But old rockers are, well..., old rockers.

If you want to call me more names, go ahead. I'm supposed to be insulted about a band I was enamored of when I was 16...? I'm supposed to be insulted by the group that gave us these memorable lyrics:

Sitting on a park bench
eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Snot running down his nose
greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes.
Drying in the cold sun
Watching as the frilly panties run.
Feeling like a dead duck
spitting out pieces of his broken luck.

Some pearls....

But I suppose if a somewhat decent flautist plays a skip beat version of Bouree I'm supposed to fall all over my ass and worship his musical genius. Sorry, pal. That ain't me, babe....

Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
My words but a whisper- your deafness a shout....

I saw Tull in 1970 & 1972.

About 4 years ago I took my youngest son to see them. They played as well as ever, and we thoroughly enjoyed the show (he was already very familiar with them through his “home-schooled” music education).

I may catch them again this round. Worth every penny, imho.
