Will Windows 7 reconize an USB Drive or run DOS?
yes
You should be able to Start>Run “cmd” or “command”. As for recognizing the drive, it should. It’s just a USB device, and the device itself handles the logic of transferring data to/from the computer.
Tech ping.
Can you help?
If there’s a list for these topics please add me on. Thanks
Except that's not real DOS.
If you have to run "real" DOS, your best bet is FreeDOS in a VM (use VirtualBox or Virtual PC).
7 handles USB drives just fine. It also manages wireless networking much better than XP.

Yes
or run DOS?
No
Shadowace has a list for tech-ping
Swordmaker has a list for mac-ping.
Both are good lists to be on. You learn plenty.
just got a new PC today w/ W7 (old one had Vista, blecch) and will have to see what I can do, etc. I think I have USB drives right on the front. But I don’t think W7 has Windows Movie Maker (looked up), one thing I’ve used for video editing
I will say this: faster, easier to use, versatile, so far
(a cheapie $298 at WalMart, E-machines)
Uhm, yes. But what do you mean? For boot or...?
...and if I plug in my mp3 player, etc., we’ll have to see if it’ll show up on Computer. Prob will (USB that is)
Depends upon what one means by "run DOS."
No Windows since 3.1 has "run DOS." But Win-7 does run a Command Box just like all the others after 3.1.

Not boot but some real time program!
I know Vista would only allow a boot from floppy but no writing to floppy.
I was hoping this was solved in windows seven.
Could it be installed under windows compatabilty?
Almost forgot, Ernest_at_the_beach has a ping for linux and open source tech.
I have had Win 7 64 bit for some time.
It found the floppy drive immediately. Since it had no DVD reader or writer, I bought one of those and it would not see it.
The Samsung portable DVD/CD writer/reader activated immediately with no problem.
That ain’t DOS though.
Yeah I don’t see why not. It’s just another storage medium and if you want to run a program from the USB Flash for protection then install VMware or VPC.
While we are discussing Windows 7, I acquired a new ‘puter with Windows 7 and find it only marginally better than VISTA was. I purchased the MS Office Home & Student package which includes WORD, PowerPoint, etc. and had it installed by The Geek Squad. For one thing, if I receive an email with a PPS attachment, it will not open the attachment. There are other disappointments which I won’t bore you with. But I wish I could just go back to Windows XP and be happy again.
Thank you for your indulgence.......and help......maybe.
