Every day it gets harder and harder to use FreeRepublic. For some reason the site is suffering from unspecified "server" problems that are rarely explained in a way that longstanding members such as myself can even find. The only reason I know there is a server problem is because someone finally posted a comment from FR Staff over on the Alternate Free Republic site; a place I find myself turning to more and more frequently while waiting for the latest daily problem to be resolved. To say this is merely frustrating is the understatement of the year.
I grant you I don't donate as much money as others here, but I do participate and have for almost 12 years. I do not think it is too much to ask that Management send out a Private Message to all active members here and explain exactly why we are having so many problems on a daily basis getting in here.
I have nearly memorized the error messages and frankly I am sick of it. I do not appreciate being kept in the dark and I do not like having to go hunting for answers when they ought to be readily forthcoming. I don't expect FR to air their dirty laundry on the open boards, as I realize that could lead to further problems by giving the disruptors new ideas about how to do whatever it is they may be doing to disrupt the board.
I do expect improved communication with your members who are not disrupting FR. I have been patient about this for weeks as these access problems ebb and flow, but lately I have had about enough of trying to figure out if the site is up or down or if I have a problem on my computer.
Constant cyber attacks?
Yea, eventually I get the process to work, just can’t figure out why after all these years the last few months have been googly. (Googly my granddaughter’s word for things without explanation.)
When I’m having trouble accessing FR, I do what every good FR addict should.
I get out the Hoppes #9 and start cleaning. It’s very relaxing and I just love the smell.
Give it a try, you’ll find you feel so much better afterwards.
Technology isn't perfect, and anyone who has worked in a company that uses servers and computers for everything on a daily basis has gone through this. We depend on technology - for our livelihoods and much more. We're at the mercy, so to speak, of IT professionals.
When calculating what I gain from FR vs. the occasional problem, they are not even close. I think this website does a terrific job, present issues notwithstanding.
and, most likely, its OUR TAX $$$$$ being used by (guess who) to do all this, too...
What he said.
Lets see what the nOOb has to say about our manners and less than charitable commentary.
Oh, and there was a hottie ping yesterday that I missed out on because I couldn’t access FR.
I can see it on Ping and Trace and the pathing and returns look fine but when I can’t access it, very frustrating.
1...., 2....., 3.....
Wow I didn’t think you would actually show up again on this subject. but there you are....
Dont take life so seriously... Youll never live through it. — from someone who has been happily freeping since 2000.
What’s that? “We are ungrateful wretches”?
Is it that nOOb La Lydia again?
Great Idea!
“Whats that? We are ungrateful wretches?”
Yeah, the nerve of wanting a site to work most of the time! Outrageous!
Is Ralph messing with the Zot9000 again?
Highly concur on "The Cuckoo's Egg." They even did a lighthearted docu-drama on it on PBS.
One quibble: This was in the era of the internet (that's what the interloper used), but before widespread introduction of the World Wide Web.
At the time, it was actually ARPANET, but the term ‘internet’ was already in circulation, and it was about to be used to connect to commercial services and to become the internet that we know today.
Dang, you’re tough! Must be the Snuggies....
It is the leopard-skin Snuggie that does the trick. Purrrrr...grrrrowl. Got a little pink one for my Yorkie because I couldn’t find a leopard-skin one for her. Sweet.
Way cool. Looks like Ron White’s evil twin.
