My Bigamist Boyfriend Tricked Me Into Marrying Him In Africa
Chris Brooke 28th January 2010
When Julie Stead [Pic in URL] arrived to visit her boyfriend's family in Gambia, she was pleased to be given an elegant cream and white outfit. She wore it on her birthday a few days later, believing she was going to a party. But she soon discovered that the big event was her own marriage - and there was nothing romantic about it.
Julie Stead eagerly accepted Jobe's invitation to spend a two-week holiday with his family in Gambia - little did she know she would end up marrying him there Her boyfriend threatened to leave her stranded in Africa if she refused to go through with it.
Only after reluctantly agreeing did 28-year-old Miss Stead discover that her 'husband' was already married to a Gambian woman and had two children.
Yesterday, as he was jailed, she told how she had been targeted by a serial conman as a means to live legitimately in the UK. Miss Stead, a carer from Bridlington, East Yorkshire, met Ahmed Jobe, 31, at a nightclub in the seaside town in 2006.
He told her he worked for BT and she quickly fell in love, ignoring her parents' concerns. Jobe was jailed for four years and three months after being found guilty of 10 fraud charges Within months, she eagerly accepted an invitation to spend a two-week holiday with his family in his West African homeland.

Miss Stead, you should have listened to your parents.
Several things that I noticed: (1) Gambia’s official language is English. (2) Why would she let the boyfriend hold her passport? (3) She doesn’t look sad in the party.
she sure looks really fearful in those photos
You forgot the dateline — 1961.
Tell this dumbass that all’s not lost, she can get knocked up and give birth to a kid who can grow up to be a crappy President.....
My Bigamist Boyfriend Tricked Me Into Marrying Him In Africa (and all I got was this lousy dashiki!)
Know a woman who married an African man. After 2 years (and citizenship), he divorced her and brought his “wife” and four children over to the US and made them citizens too. She was conned the whole way.
HA!...that is exactly what I thought this story was about when I clicked on the link.
I’m so silly.
I saw the headline and thought this was about Zero’s Mom.
OMG! She looks all dolled up for the occasion. As usual JPB obliges with his pic posts! Thanks
She got what she had coming to her, I feel no sympathy for her whatsoever.
lay down with dogs, come up with flea’s
Stupid is as stupid does...
At first I thought this would be the story of Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. It could have been the title of her autobiography.
Not Worthy of a Non-Ping, or Worthy of a Not-a-Ping? Hmmm.... anyway, here. :)
OK, I haven’t looked at the article yet, but my first thought was — exactly how and why is Obama’s deceased mom writing about this now?
*snicker* My first thought was “Hey, Zer0! I’ve found your daddy!”
< pedantry>
It’s *The* Gambia, not just Gambia.
