Here is video of Apple's Steve Jobs unveiling their new "Ipad" device today. It is a tablet-type computer that seeks to be a whole new category of device that can do multiple things in a superior way. There has been tremendous buzz about the unveiling of the new device.
Calling it "way better than a laptop, way better than a phone," Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled his company's long-awaited iPad tablet-style multi-touch device Wednesday.
The device weighs just 1.5 pounds -- lighter than any netbook, Jobs noted -- and sports a 9.7-inch display. It also includes a 1GHz Apple-built ARM A4 processor which includes the CPU and graphics.
"Everything is one chip, and it screams," Jobs said.
He also touted that device gets 10 hours battery life watching video, and has a one-month standby charge. It will come in capacities of 16GB to 64GB of flash storage.
As expected, the device also can connect to the existing App Store. It was revealed that current iPhone and iPod touch applications will work on the iPad. With just a tap, existing applications can be run in full-screen mode.
Jobs noted that the hardware is a "dream to type on," and demonstrated how to read, view media and content and access applications on the hardware.
It includes calendar, address book, maps and music applications built-in. It also connects to the iTunes store.
"You can discover music, you can purchase it," Jobs said. "Movies, TV shows, podcasts, iTunes University -- everything built right in."
It also has access to YouTube the streaming service's high-definition streaming content.
"Using this thing is remarkable. It's so much more intimate than a laptop, and it's so much more capable than a smartphone," Jobs said. . . . (VIDEO)
Is a iPhone on ‘roids worth $1,000? (Rumor of the price point)
So... It’s a big iTouch?
$699 for the i-pad, the “more intimate” device from Apple. Jobs description, not mine.
Dumb. 64 gb of memory on a Kindle for much more money and no content distribution set up.

*Yawn*
Wow! What a fantastic new idea!
Oh wait. The Asus EEE T91 has been out since June of last year.
He craps on netbooks and then introduces an apple netbook . . . for $100 more and a year behind! Wow! I want that!
I have an Ipaq that does the same thing and it’s been out for nearly 8 years.
Sounds like an overpriced netbook with a slower processor.
Too useless...
Too expensive...
Too big...
To fragile...
Excuse me. I gotta go get in line at the Apple Store...
“Jobs noted that the hardware is a dream to type on,’”
Really. I don’t know the exact dimensions, but it looked like it was about 5” x 8”. Definitely easier to type on than an iPhone, but I don’t see how it can be nearly as good as typing on a standard-sized keyboard.
I remember when Apple stock was $15 and they had just announced the iPod - the brilliant analysts I spoke to didn’t get it and tried to dissuade me from buying shares. The Walkman had been out for years - nothing new here.
He is right about at least one thing. In order for this to catch on, it has to be better than the laptops we already have.
Let me add, it needs to be much more portable than my laptop.
So far, it doesn’t look to be much better and is possibly less portable because it absolutely requires a case the size of a laptop to protect the screen.
I’ll wait to see if the better part is true.
I hate to reply to myself butt...
One more thing! I’m not going to carry a man purse. Not happening.
Me too, I bought at 25.00 and it languished for the longest time. I sold just as it started to go up of course.... I could a been rich!!
Go for it! There is always room for late adopters.
No content distribution? I guess you aren’t familiar with the iTunes store?
