A new report by the the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says that 11 people were arrested for being armed and drunk during the state's 2009 nine-day deer hunting season. Five of them were repeat offenders.
Game wardens also arrested 29 convicted felons carrying firearms -- a big increase compared to previous years. It's not illegal for felons to purchase hunting permits in Wisconsin, but they can't carry guns.
On the bright side, hunters managed not to kill each other this year, although a handful of them shot themselves or each other one way or another. Wisconsin DNR says the 2009 season was the fourth safest on record.

What a silly headline. Ten days in a "city" of 650,000, 11 drunks doesn't strike me as very many. To the author, they were hunting, of course they were armed, moron. So are lots of the drunks in Chicago or Milwaukee. I'm sure there are no drunks in Minneapolis.

I wanted to post some of the responses to the article, they're funny, but might be a language issue. They're
here.

I wonder what Wisconsin law has to say about killing a deer with your bare hands or a sharp weapon? Arrow is fine, can't spear them, though you should be able to. Since the law is written in the context of what you can use to hunt rather than what you can't, I'm sure hands are out.

Once while hunting on a friends property in southwest Wisconsin I happened upon a 'hunter' who was passed out cold at the base of a tree.
I shook him a couple of times with no result.
Resting in his arms was a very nice Weatherby rifle. I picked it up and inspected the chamber to find out it was loaded and the safety was in the "Off" position.
I carefully unloaded the weapon and tried to wake Sleeping Beauty again. When I couldn't I placed the barrel of the rifle carefully in a crook of the tree, grabbed the stock, and bent that sucker as far as I could.
I put the rifle on the ground next to the idiot and called it a day.

You’re far kinder than I. I would’ve taken his rifle and left a note that it could be retrieved at the local police dept.

I wouldve taken his rifle and left a note that it could be retrieved at the local police dept. I considered that option but worried that I might be accused of Felony Theft of a Firearm.
So I went with Option B which was to put as big of a curve in that barrel as I could. Wish I could have been there to see his face when he finally woke up.

Well, Duh! Cause and effect! When you’re drunk & shootin’, you can’t hit anything...except sometimes your own foot. :)

True, true.
Another option would have been to fire off a round right next to his ear to wake him up. :)

ROTFLMAO !!!!
Too bad ya didn’t have a deer to rest accross his lap to go with that new corner shot jap rifle.
That would have made a great deer camp story.
Too funny !

Every time the liberals are about to go after guns these stories start showing up in the news. It is predictable.

Yes, actually carrying or using a firearm while intoxicated, not limited to hunting.

Is hunting while intoxicated against the law in Wisconsin?Being a recent resident of Wisconsin, I don't know if it's actually against the law or not.
However, it's so abysmally stupid and dangerous that whoever does it pretty much deserves whatever they get.
