Space-age powerboat 'sliced in two' by Japan whalers

SYDNEY — A space-age powerboat sent to harass Japanese whalers was rammed and sliced in two in its very first clash on Wednesday, activists said, dramatically escalating hostilities in icy Antarctic seas.

The futuristic Ady Gil trimaran, which holds the round-the-world record and was enlisted by militant activists from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society for this whaling season, received "catastrophic damage" and was sinking, they said.

All six crew, who earlier hurled stink bombs at the whalers to disrupt their annual hunt, were rescued unharmed by Sea Shepherd's Bob Barker ship. Activists described the attack as unprovoked and said it was captured on film.

"The Shonan Maru No. 2 suddenly started up and deliberately rammed the Ady Gil ripping eight feet (2.4 metres) of the bow of the vessel completely off," a Sea Shepherd statement said.

The only good ecoterrorist is a dead ecoterrorist.

You harass, you die. Photoshopped film is not evidence of an alleged event when the narrator is laughing and saying whoa over and over.

The long version of the Japanese video shows the speed boat deliberately surging forward just enough to get it bow rammed.

In fact you can see the water at the rear going from fairly calm to churning as the props (or water jets, I don't know) are turned on to drive it in front of the bow.

See a longer version of the Japanese Video here

You can’t murder Whales. They’re basically big aquatic cows, not human beings. Now that Teddy Kennedy is dead, there’s no excuse for confusing the two.

As for who’s to blame here: the eco-freaks have DROPPED MINES before now. When they’re seen dicking about near the bows of a Japanese whaler the Japs not only have the right to ram them, they should also feel free to blow them out of the water.

Actively killing saboteurs who are trying to sink a ship in lethally cold water would be an act of self-defense. A collision at sea caused by the stupidity and fanaticism of those same saboteurs is even more defensible.

Good point, its not the Whalers who’s seeking publicity, its Greenpace. Its incident like this they seek. They benefit from this. They have the motive to cause the crash

That made me happy. They should've harpooned them for good measure.

After an act like that (deliberately setting up a violent encounter) the Japanese captain has no legal obligation to pull the offending parties out of the water.

In fact, considering that the offending parties are attempting to commit genocide by prohibiting whale eating polar people from getting the type of food they need to survive he would be justified in being aggressive toward any survivors ~ firing at them with small caliber weapons if necessary. He certainly doesn't need any of their kind fouling his props.

Liberals are bottomless pits of money - they’ll just buy a bunch of new boats... or figure out a way to tax us for their hobby...

There is no need to hunt whales today.

There is no need to raise and kill animals for food today. We can all eat yeast patties that we can get at the government universal nutritional needs store. That or soylent green.

Your premise is wrong. The Japanese are operating on the high seas legally. If you don't want whales killed get the law changed.

YOU are right, mad. The enviro-nuts think their "feelings" trump any laws. In short, they're bullies. Why should the people of Japan be allowed to make laws when a bunch of true believer liberal nuts can trump the will of the Japanese people with expensive fast powerboats?

Liberals jerks do the same thing here ... the world is sick of them.

"The Shonan Maru No. 2 suddenly started up and deliberately rammed the Ady Gil ripping eight feet (2.4 metres) of the bow of the vessel completely off," ...

Good.

Also, for what it is worth, some Tokyoites consider a "Shonan" license plate to be a desirable one (Shonan is the name of a nice beach area close to Tokyo, home to Kamakura and Enoshima.)

In the old days pirates were concidered hostis humani generis - enemies of all mankind and shot or hung on sight. Time to bring back tradition...

The whale killers ship veered on purpose to hit the smaller boat. I call it attempted human murder by known whale murderers. Just falling into the ice cold water can be a death sentence.

If the whalers had intentionally rammed the eco terrorists I would be all for giving the whalers a bounty on them. Pirates deserve to die.

There is no need to hunt whales today.

Sure there is. They taste good! It's no different than killing a cow or a squirrel. As long as they hunt responsibly, preserving the overall health of the species, they whould be able to harvest all they can use.

The earth was put here for our use. As long as we take care of it we can kill and eat anything we want.

Whatever the background between the dog eating japs and the envirowhackos, the video clearly shows attempted murder.

The japs made a bad move and their whaling days are over.
