Connie Hines, an actress who portrayed Carol Post, whose husband Wilbur was the only person who could talk with Mister Ed in the 1960s television show, has died. She was 79.
Hines died Friday at her home in Beverly Hills from complications of heart problems, said Alan Young, her "Mister Ed" costar. "I lost a great friend. She was always joyous," Young said Monday.
In the show, which ran from 1961 to 1966 on CBS, the Posts moved into a rambling country home and found a horse in their barn. The center of the show became the banter between Young and the horse, Mister Ed, which left Hines trying to make the most of her opportunities.

She was cute, funny, and had a K.O. figure.
I loved Carol! As a little girl in those days, I thought she was so pretty and funny. And, I also loved Mr. Ed of course of course!
Those were the days. TV was fun back then: The Beverly Hillbillies, Gomer Pyle, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, Hogan’s Heroes, The Flying Nun, All in the Family, Carol Burnett, the Ed Sullivan Show, Johnny Carson, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Lost in Space, The Addams Family, The Munsters, The Partridge Family, Family Affair, Gilligan’s Island,—I could list more... Now compare that to what we have today: American Idol, reality shows, MTV, Roseanne, Survivor.
In the later years of the show, she put on a few extra pounds which I always liked- even as a little kid.
Vic Morrow and “Combat!”
The one thing that's better today is that we no longer depend on the networks for news.
Loved Combat! Don’t forget Twelve O’Clock High.
Yes but there is a lot on cable I like: Fox News, the Military Channel, The History Channel, Nat Geo, Discovery, Animal Planet, TCM, Travel-—this gives me a break from all of the other mindless crap.
“...The one thing that’s better today is that we no longer depend on the networks for news.”
You’re right about that. Remember when LBJ had that console installed in the Oval Office with three TVs so he could watch the three major networks at news time. Thank God that the influence of ABC, NBC, CBS, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time, and Newsweek has declined due to more competition.
To borrow George Wallace’s phrase there was “not a dimes worth of difference” between all the above mentioned media and all of them were/are very far to the Left.
I’m 60yo, and I’ve got to admit that other than the Bob Newhart show, none of those old shows you mentioned were very entertaining to me then or now. I will admit though, that I don’t watch any of the current shows you mentioned either. It’s a different time and a different world.
Newhart always was the best. :-)
I could watch an episode of Hogan’s Heroes or Gilligan’s Island over and over and over and over and over and still get quite a laugh out of it. Can you say that about Roseanne? Or any of the reality shows?
They sure were great shows.
Yes they sure were. Actors had class back then. They kept their private lives private so there was no need for the paparazzi, the National Enquirer, or TMZ. Hollywood was so much more fun and wholesome and geared toward Middle America. Now it really is Hollyweird!
A Tribute to Mr. Ed and his show....................

Because of Combat , I took German in high school. Damn if they weren’t speaking German on the show .Bought my son (26) the DVD set of all Combat seasons for Christmas .
In the mid 80’s my company had me TDY in Bloomington, MN working on a program, and I noticed what seemed like half of the team would take off around lunchtime together. I found out later they were going over to this guys house to watch Mr Ed.
