Those were the days. TV was fun back then: The Beverly Hillbillies, Gomer Pyle, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, Hogan’s Heroes, The Flying Nun, All in the Family, Carol Burnett, the Ed Sullivan Show, Johnny Carson, Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart, Lost in Space, The Addams Family, The Munsters, The Partridge Family, Family Affair, Gilligan’s Island,—I could list more... Now compare that to what we have today: American Idol, reality shows, MTV, Roseanne, Survivor.

Yes the shows were better and they were free. Remember when Cable started expanding in the late 70s the big selling point was that cable channels were commercial free and that's why you had to pay for them.

The one thing that's better today is that we no longer depend on the networks for news.

I’m 60yo, and I’ve got to admit that other than the Bob Newhart show, none of those old shows you mentioned were very entertaining to me then or now. I will admit though, that I don’t watch any of the current shows you mentioned either. It’s a different time and a different world.

In the mid 80’s my company had me TDY in Bloomington, MN working on a program, and I noticed what seemed like half of the team would take off around lunchtime together. I found out later they were going over to this guys house to watch Mr Ed.
