Earth's Polar Ice Sheets Vulnerable to Even Moderate Global Warming; New Orleans, Much of Southern Florida, Expected to Be Permanently Submerged
ScienceDaily (Dec. 18, 2009) A new analysis of the geological record of the Earth's sea level, carried out by scientists at Princeton and Harvard universities and published in the Dec. 16 issue of Nature, employs a novel statistical approach that reveals the planet's polar ice sheets are vulnerable to large-scale melting even under moderate global warming scenarios. Such melting would lead to a large and relatively rapid rise in global sea level.
According to the analysis, an additional 2 degrees of global warming could commit the planet to 6 to 9 meters (20 to 30 feet) of long-term sea level rise. This rise would inundate low-lying coastal areas where hundreds of millions of people now reside. It would permanently submerge New Orleans and other parts of southern Louisiana, much of southern Florida and other parts of the U.S. East Coast, much of Bangladesh, and most of the Netherlands, unless unprecedented and expensive coastal protection were undertaken. And while the researchers' findings indicate that such a rise would likely take centuries to complete, if emissions of greenhouse gases are not abated, the planet could be committed during this century to a level of warming sufficient to trigger this outcome.

If the entire Arctic Ocean Ice cap melted instantaneously, the ocean levels would not not rise a single millimeter. That ice already displaces its weight in water.

IF this is true then we should not have bothered to rebuild New Orleans.
We've always known that New Orleans would be problematic. Why do you think it's practically walled in with a lot of pumps? The thing is surrounded by water.

I’m not too worried about sea rise...
Jer 5:22
Should you not fear me?” declares the LORD.
“Should you not tremble in my presence?
I made the sand a boundary for the sea,
an everlasting barrier it cannot cross.
The waves may roll, but they cannot prevail;
they may roar, but they cannot cross it.

New Orleans has been below sea level since before I was born in 1937.

IF this is true then we should not have bothered to rebuild New Orleans.Good point. In one of his books, Glenn Beck shows a map of Florida pinpointing homes owned by Hollywood elitists and how these homes would be underwater if Algore's predictions were true. Essentially, these liberals wouldn't have bought those homes if they really believed they would be dozens of feet underwater in 50 years.

New Orleans has always been below sea level. So whats the point?
Hey there are some guys in Dubi with giant Island building dredges that might be willing to sell them cheap about now. Just fill in New Orleans to the level of the levies with good old fashioned Mississippi mud. In fact just tack on a couple of extra feet for that once in a century storm and them build New New Orleans on top of the mound.
Either that or just tear down the city and put in a swamp. Heck the mosquitoes are blood sucking parasites so you won't notice much of a change from the current population.

"How does polar ice melting create higher fluid (sea) levels?"
It can't. They will claim that the antarctic ice is above the ground. But the northern ice can't do a thing. And have they accounted for the fact that the weight of the ice on antarctica is pushing it down? So if it raised up, the ocean floor would go down, creating more room for the water?
Never mind the fact that Antarctica has been uncovered IN HUMAN HISTORY, as evidenced by the Piri Reis map, backing up the Biblical account of history, and refuting the modern view.

Question for you climate change poofters - how much of ‘global warming’ is due to natural causes, and how much is due to nature itself (i.e. the sun.)
And, if man ceases every single activity that is allegedly contributing to ‘global warming’, will that stop ‘global warming’? If not, then why go to all the trouble?

They stole this from Jeane Dixon and that fake Sylvia Brown and other prophecies that have an asteroid hitting and causing this.
Can’t they even make their own crap up?
I guess they thought a little girl hanging in a tree from floods and calamity was enough. LOL

"According to the analysis, an additional 2 degrees of global warming could commit the planet to 6 to 9 meters (20 to 30 feet) of long-term sea level rise." For the sea levels to rise 6 inches worldwide, it would require an amount of ice to melt equal to 216 Greenlands.

How does polar ice melting create higher fluid (sea) levels? Antarctica is the problem ... it's ice over a landmass, not ice floating on water (like the Arctic ice mass). It has 70% of all the world's freshwater frozen as ice - and 90% of all the world's ice. So, IF the Antarctic ice were to melt, sea levels would rise.
Currently, the Antarctic ice mass is increasing in size.
