A Jonesboro man was arrested Dec. 1 in the Walmart parking lot at the Fayette Pavilion for striking his pit bull with his fist and displaying belligerent and drunken behavior.
James M. Lovingood, Jr., 34, was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals and public drinking, according to Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw.
Crawshaw said officers were called to the scene at approximately 8:15 p.m. by a witness who said that Lovingood was hitting the dog with his fist. Once at the scene two other witnesses said they had seen the same thing, Crawshaw said.
Officers approached Lovingood and asked what he was doing.
Im just sitting here drinking a beer, Lovingood responded.
Relaying the complaint by witnesses, Lovingood denied striking the animal, Crawshaw said, stating instead that he had been pulling down on his dog. The dog was wearing a chain, Crawshaw added.
Lovingood was arrested minutes later based on the statements by witnesses and on further conversation with officers who noted his belligerent drunken feedback.
OK - there’s a joke here somewhere about a guy named “Lovingood” punching a pit bull - that it happened at WalMart is just lagniappe.
“Man punches dog”....that’s news.
Hows Harley?
Hey,Granny,,,

It was Awful!,,,;0),,,And,,,
We ain’t been `et’up by the pits yet...;0)
Glad to hear the whole family is doing well...:O)
This story has it all- Walmart, pit-bulls, public drunkenness.
All that’s missing is a fat chick with no bra, missing a tooth, and bleached hair with dark roots.
Well, you just sent me to the dictionary. Learnt me a new word for the day, I garontee! ;>)
Oh No! not another picture of Helen Thomas!
As angry as the stories make me when I hear about a dog viciously attacking an innocent person, when someone punches a dog for no reason, I hope that dog takes the person’s hand off.
Some big male guard dogs need physical discipline sometimes but not for nothing and not when drunk.
I had a big 120 pound male Rott is 1984 that growled menacingly at my near wife...I whacked him like a man...hurt my hand more than his huge head...he rolled over and gave me the belly and never did that again...but I’ve seen some dogs it would be crazy to mess with....and they ought not be pets period really if they are that far gone or penned up out in the country with one owner at best
I’ve seen some dogs I’d be feared to punch..
mine is only 3 months old and 40 lbs and just got home and is sleeping in my lap right now...
o
It will probably balance out eventually.
