Breathe easy, Boise State fans.

Texas hit a do-or-die field goal on the final play of the game Saturday night to beat Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game.

The kick likely put Texas in the national championship game and Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. If Nebraska had won, the Broncos might have gotten snubbed by the Bowl Championship Series.

“Check out Cincy’s and TCU’s schedule. Except for one or two each all they play are homecoming opponents.”

Diggity, you better talk with Devere about that—D says that “Cincinnati beat the strongest 12 game schedule of ANY top team, and they should play Alabama for the national championship.”

Thank you! The ref knew better than the coach, imagine that!

Which means that Texas had to rely on luck and not on whatever talent they may have to win the game.

That was the least exciting one point college game I’ve ever seen in my life. Both teams sucked bad.

“Tebow is a great college football player, but I think he is going to have to find a different position in the NFL.”

He’ll be a throwback. 8^)

Seriously, I’d put him in as a second threat fullback, because he can block, too.

He could also play tight end if he has decent speed.

Alabama is going to destroy UT. Bama’s offense is dominant between to 20s, and yes, they get bogged down in the red zone, but they are going to wear down UT’s defense, and Colt is going to have a long night against their D.

I think Alabama is going to squash Texas like a bug based on today's games. Here's the problem for Texas: Colt McCoy is NOT a multiple threat that Vince Young was the last time Texas played for the BCS National Championship. And McCoy has to face that REALLY frightening Alabama defense, too.

Not sure UT can beat Alabama, but I’m willing to bet that they play them a lot closer that Florida did today. If you look at the results of both teams this year, then you will realize that both teams have had off days during the season. They will both come ready to play.

I’m happy for Texas, of course, after the nearest of misses last season when they beat Oklahoma, who went to the National Championship game, but then didn’t even compete for the Big 12 Championship because of a 0.0128 difference in their BCS rankings after a heartbreaking last minute loss to OK State. That was at the end of probably what was the toughest 4 week stretch of games for any college team in a long while — all 4 opponents were ranked 11 or higher.

I’m all for a playoff. A +1 system would help, but this year one undefeated team would still miss out. I’d prefer a system where all Bowl Series conference champions get into a play offs. You rank the conferences and have the bottom six champs play off against each other, then the three winners and the remaining five champs play off for the title, with all the losers (before the final) going to the usual bowl games.

I know you would have to overhaul the regular season schedule, which could be difficult, but you could schedule the first two rounds after Thanksgiving and then play the semis and final during bowl season.

The upside is that the the non-conference games would no longer count (except for your seeding in the playoffs) so the top teams would not longer be afraid to schedule strong out-of-conference teams since losing has no effect on your chances of getting to the playoffs.

(Oh, and Notre Dame, Army, and Navy would have to swallow their pride and join a conference to take part in the playoff system.)

I live in Austin and am a Texas fan, "sometimes."

I never was a Mac Brown fan because I don't think he can coach. His employees can though and his scouts are very good but Brown himself, nope.

I watched both games and saw Colt throw away his Heisman chances with those 3 interceptions and can say, without a doubt, the Alabama I saw today can crush Texas and embarrass Brown to the nth degree.

That is why I'm all for this. To be honest, I'm tired of seeing Mac Brown clapping on the sidelines like a seal every time his team screws up, and that is often.

I like Musburger. Even the games I’m not much interested in, he makes it more enjoyable.

He’s 127-26 at Texas and is on a streak of nine 10 win seasons.
He must do something right.
While Texas has a great advantage, in that a lot of players want to come here, it’s also one of the toughest places to coach. Southern California, Texas, Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame, and Florida all begin each season expecting to be national champions. The fan base, administration and alums will scream for your head if you lose four games in a season. The only way you can insulate yourself a little is to win a national championship. There were still people wanting Brown fired after the Horns went 11-1 and beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl in 2004.

Musberger is pretty bad, but no one can top Pam Ward. http://awfulannouncing.blogspot.com/ even named the award for bad announcing after her.

It’s going to get worse, in terms of undefeated teams getting left out. Currently, a single loss knocks a team out of the national title picture. Therefore, teams don’t schedule tough non-conference opponents. Some teams still schedule tough non-conference opponents because of tradition, but don’t expect to see another home and home Texas-Ohio State rivalry come up, because the loser has little chance to compete for the title.
It would be great to see LSU play Oklahoma during the season, but it just won’t happen.
Also, one of the reasons the NCAA keeps vigorish in terms of setting up bowl games has to do with television ratings and filling the stadium.
If the NCAA pitted TCU against Cincinnati and called it the national title game, the Texas-Alabama matchup would still draw much higher ratings because these teams have a huge fan base and history. TCU just recently started filling their 42,000 seat stadium, while UT has increased stadium size to 100,000.
As a side note, if Boise State wants people to take them seriously, they should get rid of that stupid blue turf. I’m surprised the NCAA hasn’t made a rule against it, as it’s the same color as the player uniforms. They’ve already got rules prohibiting uniforms being too close to the same color as the ball, and gloves and sleeves are not supposed to be a color too similar to the opposing team’s jersey color.

If my feet are inbounds, but I am leaning out of bounds and catch the ball before it hits the ground then it is a fair catch. So the clock stops when the ball hits the ground. If I am on the kicking team and the ball hits on the one yard line, and bounces in the air across the goal line. I can dive for it and bat it back into the open field before it, or I touch the ground. It then is marked where it hits in the open field and stops, or where someone touches it.

I'm a Texas fan, did my undergrad and graduate work there, have season tickets but I am no Burnt Orange Kool Aid Drinker.

Mack Brown should be fired for not being able to manage the clock. It damn near cost them this game, the Big 12 Championship and a trip to the Championship Game.

He is Damn Lucky and the Alum with those big checkbooks would have run him off if they would have lost this game.

If UT wanted a crappy coach, they would hire Les Miles.

Yes, in the NFL, they do not put up with quarterbacks that screw-up and cry like a baby.
