Just picked up a 1943 M1 Garand.
What I'd like to know is...EVERYTHING about the Garand.
1. I need to know where to get ball ammo to feed it (it's a bit scarce, as far as I can tell);
2. I'd like to know the best data sheet/book on the Garand (breakdown, cleaning, greasing, etc.);
3. The best info I can get on making the weapon as accurate as possible (peep sights on the current configuration);
4. Where I'm most likely to pick up the best (and best valued!) accessories for it (slings, parts, etc).
I know...I should Google all of this. I HAVE! The Google results are enormous! But as always, FReepers have been the best on gun stuff!
And it's my bet that there are some Garand owners/aficionados on FreeRepublic...
Any thoughts or ideas...or even comments about the rifle?
Thanks in advance...

heh. I’m happy if I hit paper. (word or legend is that mosins are sighted in with the bayonet on or it throws high right)
I am looking to purchase a new sidearm. Would appreciate your input.
Requirements:
9 mm/45 cal — light — reliable — not subject to FTF or FTE — reasonably priced
Thanks for your help.
Qualified expert on the M1 in December, 1961. Wonderful weapon. My favorite was the BAR.
I like my Springfield XD SubCompact, in .40 S&W.
It’s pretty concealable and shoots much better than I do. It’s also safe. It’s got a grip safety as well as the trigger safety. It has a “cocked” indicator as well as a “charged” indicator and you can tell whether it’s cocked and/or charged by look or feel. Pretty good stuff.
The XD SubCompact comes in 9MM and .45, too.
I’ve got a little bitty Kel-Tec PF-9 9MM for pocket carry. It works for what it does, but it’s sure not as much fun to shoot.
I don’t know what you’re wanting to use yours for, but when you said “...light - reliable...” it sounded like a carry weapon; maybe concealable.

A couple of my Mosins. The non-laminated one on the bottom was an $89 Big 5 special. Both are in awesome shape (no conterbore, original finish).
Yeah. Lminated stocks are cool.
Big 5 is always tempting me.
The pick of the litter I have is a 1924 hex Izzy, non counter bored.
A few years back, I had an 'accident' with a kettle smoker, a couple pounds of hickory wood, and a whole ham that produced similar collateral damage, but I won't go into that. I can make a big enough ass of myself without any extra audiovisual aids.
