Polly, I must have overlooked this post! 3 hours of shopping would kill me. Our weather is so bitter, you can’t stand to stick your nose out. I had to go out a little bit and I declare all I wanted was to get home and not ever go out again. Extremely bitter and terribly windy....be glad when this spell is over. Red Hat lunch tomorrow and I wish it wasn’t! But I must go! Going to a special place for our Christmas party, exchanging gifts, etc.

It was exhausting to shop, but at least I didn’t have to buck winds and cold today. I know exactly what you mean by not wanting to “ ever go out again”! I’m with you!

Thank you, Luv.

I didn’t start from scratch. I used a graphic that Lori made for me years ago.

Hope you’ve had a great Thursday.

Thank you, Jaycee.

I started with a graphic that Lori made for me a few years ago.

Enjoy your luncheon tomorrow. I would like to stay in but I need to work at the PTA booth tomorrow afternoon and then work at school movie night. It will be a busy day.

We all consider you our friend, too. Marissa recognized your yard in something you posted the other day. She was impressed with the snow. :)

Carnival (rainy)

A soggy night, yes, a wet dog day
and so, so few came out to play
A melancholy mood now sets in
and common folks forget how to grin
The once lighted rides seem dim
as if another odd world their in

No one’s riding, for no one cares
the wet and chill mutes the fair
Soggy seats and moods are cast
and emptiness settles down so fast
A lack of crowds makes silent din
like ghosts cavorting in their sin

The machinery glimmers in lamp light
colored red and green and blue bright
Yet there is a raw melancholy air to fall
somehow making empty space of all
A carnival set by a darkening pail
holding a strange moment’s odd tale

Shadows cast, flow and run together soft
and forms change in the gloom aloft
Echoes of the dreary day settle into night
as like a wine fills a drunkard’s sight
Memories wind among the iron shapes
a mist wall to blind one in the grey drape

So sad the rain makes of what was bright
a place oft filled with other’s laughter light
Now a grey world as odd as an alien world
a place where even dreams fold till furled
Sounds mute as soft falling rain does fall
Quietly enrobing the gaiety of the carnival

Carnival [thunderstorm]

A day of silly fun to share with you
until the storm came on wings it flew
We ran for the shelter of the popcorn tent
dodging rain some mischievous angel sent
We hid and watch the splattered rain so wet
and laughed at the people too slow to get

We shared the moment and watched the fun
watching those caught on rides who couldn’t run
The music played and people ran in panic’d glee
and we held hands and shared all we could see
Munching on hot popcorn with salty tang
wondering as the hammered weight bell rang

Crashing thunder and flash of lightening might
added to the flash and gleam of colored lights
Rides still ran and whirled about in mad race
and life went on in it’s usual hectic human pace
We cuddled close and watched it all go on and on
And close to share our warmth and love’s dawn

The rain did pass and we began our rides again
And found our laughter richer in each ride’s din
Such is the way of raw youth and love and life
energetic rise beyond the burden of our strife
The day winds down amid our laughter sweet
into memories we’ll recall to heart most fleet

Ya know!! I am going to try that Fried Bread!
My adopted grandson is American Indian. I tried making “ Fry Bread” last year for him...and it was a disaster! Maybe I should have let you do it for him!!

Being part Sioux, growing up for a time in Hardin Montana (On the Reservation), Fried bread was a common fare, served hot with butter and maple syrup.

Here’s the recipe my mom used, (a Blackfoot lady gave it to her when I was a kid, so this is at least fifty years old.)

4 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. powdered milk
1 Tbsp. baking powder
1-1/2 cups water (warm from the tap)

Oil for frying, (Mom used either /Crisco, or Peanut oil)

Mix all dry ingredients thoroughly. Add water. Knead until soft, then set aside for one hour in warm area. Shape into small balls, and then flatten each ball into a circle with hand pressure, or rolling pin. Fry in a skillet until golden brown on both sides. Oil should be only as deep as half the thickness of the bread, so you cook only one side at a time.

"Wear Red" Friday
You will soon see a lot of people wearing Red on Fridays. Here's why..... The Americans, who support our troops, are the silent majority. We are not "organized" to reflect who we are, or to reflect what our opinions are. Many Americans, like yourself, and all their friends, simply want to recognize that Americans support our troops. Our idea of showing our solidarity and support for our troops is starting Friday and continuing on each and every Friday, until this is over, that every red-blooded American who supports our young men and women, WEAR SOMETHING RED.

Word of mouth, press, TV -- let's see if we can make the United States, on any given Friday, a sea of red much like a home football game at a University. If every one of our memberships share this with other acquaintances, fellow workers, friends, and neighbors, I guarantee that it will not be long before the USA will be covered in RED - and make our troops know there are many people thinking of their well-being. You will feel better all day Friday when you wear Red! So let's get the word out and lead by example; wear RED on Fridays.

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS! WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE. FOR US, THEIR BLOOD RUNS RED!! GOD BLESS AMERICA.
