Former Gov. Mike Huckabee is facing real problems if he should seek the GOP Nomination for President in 2012 after word is out tonight that a man he granted clemency in Arkansas in 2000 is now being sought in the shooting deaths of four police officers near Tacoma, Washington today. . . . This is not the first time Huckabee's seeming bent toward leniency on convicted criminals has resulted in tragedy. Another man granted clemency by Huckabee went on to rape and murder a young woman in Missouri. That man's name was Wayne Dumond. Listen to the ad below which ran against Huckabee during the 2008 Campaign. It features the mother of Carol Sue Shields - the young woman murdered by Dumond . . . (VIDEO)

Poor Huck—he’s not my pick but I really don’t think this is fair.

Nothing is fair in love, sports or politics.

In all case it usually comes down to a game of ‘mistakes’ and I think Huck made one here.

What’s not fair about it? He let those people out early when they didn’t deserve to be let out. He’s a liberal puke.

It’s not like politicians aren’t on notice that clemency decisions can come back to haunt them. Willie Horton made that clear. The Huckster overrode the objections of career prosecutors to grant this idiot clemency so that he could look “big” and “forgiving” and “Christian.” Dumb call. The party’s better off without him seeking the nomination for many other bigger reasons; this is just ammunition to keep him out of the race.

Sorry, but it is totally fair.

Accountability and righteousness in our dealings applies to both the left, middle, and right spectrums of politics.

For whatever reason Huckabee pardoned not just this loser, but all the rest, he chose to do it even when the prosecutors and victims told him not to do it.

It now rests on his head where it belongs.

BLAHBLAHBLAH

I don’t see Huckabee taking any personal responsibility for commuting thie monster’s sentence. Just empty words.

Tell it to the grieving widows, widower, and the nine children of these brave cops, Mike!

It’s even worse than Huckabee’s pardon - this guy was in Pierce County lockup and released 6 days ago after being charged with 2nd degree sexual abuse of a child and learning he had an open warrant in Arkansas.

Those four cops lost their lives and a number of children lost a parent because the very people who are supposed to keep criminals locked up failed in their responsibilities.

Pray for their families.

Statement Regarding Washington State Slayings
Press Team
Send To A Friend

“The senseless and savage execution of police officers in Washington State has saddened the nation, and early reports indicate that a person of interest is a repeat offender who once lived in Arkansas and was wanted on outstanding warrants here and Washington State. The murder of any individual is profound tragedy, but the murder of a police officer is the worst of all murders in that it is an assault on every citizen and the laws we live within.

Should he be found to be responsible for this horrible tragedy, it will be the result of a series of failures in the criminal justice system in both Arkansas and Washington State. He was recommended for and received a commutation of his original sentence from 1990, making him parole eligible and was paroled by the parole board once they determined he met the conditions at that time. He was arrested later for parole violation and taken back to prison to serve his full term, but prosecutors dropped the charges that would have held him. It appears that he has continued to have a string of criminal and psychotic behavior but was not kept incarcerated by either state. This is a horrible and tragic event and if found and convicted the offender should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. Our thoughts and prayers are and should be with the families of those honorable, brave, and heroic police officers.”

That didn’t say much did it? It’s pretty clear he’s not taking responsibility. While I don’t think it’s all his fault, Pierce County or the city let him out just 6 days ago after being charged with child rape and assault of an officer so, in my mind, it’s more their fault than his but - he’s not taking any blame.

I don’t know any of the details and now I’m wondering. All this talk of “Huckabee pardoned him” but it says he was paroled by the parole board. Which is it? Anyone know? (And not just heresay, facts).

Yep. Washington dropped the ball, big time. The guy had an outstanding warrant and felonies and he still got bail?

I’d like to know who the judge was that did that?

Why is not fair?

First of all, it is a corruption of the legal system that an elected official can commute sentences. But some politicians, being more virtuous than the rest of us, are just more sensitive to nuanced subtleties of criminal justice. They have to feel this way. Otherwise, why would they incur the political risk especially if they have further political aspirations.

This sort of thing just keeps happening, but as far as I know, no state has revoked this power from their govenor.

From various news reports, Huckabee granted Clemmons clemency which required the parole board in Arkansas to approve the release. Prosecutors wrote to both Huckabee and the parole board stating their objection to any release.

The parole board received Huckabees clemency petition and voted to release. Why Huckabee was willing to give Clemency in he first place I can’t find. I’m searching newspaper archives to see if I can find a report about this but so far not much luck.

From what I’m reading this guy has spent most of his life in jail/prison and should not have been out on the streets period.

Oh, this should cause him to be the left’s posterboy for a “good” conservative.

Not his first fatal mistake, either. Hey, the sHuckster is all for amnesty...convicted murderers, illegal aliens, poser POTUS, it’s all the same to him.

Update from cnn.

Clemmons had a 95 year sentence on him when Huckabee decided to seek clemency; he cited Clemmons age, 17, as the reason for giving him a second chance.

The prosecutor in the case and the judge were both against clemency for the animal. The background on these shootings stinks from top to bottom...

Cnn has the report http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/11/29/washington.police.shooting/
