Maybe Microsoft can get some stocky guy to be the PC and a thin guy to be the Mac and write some contrived dialog about junk Macintoshs.

New iMac users are reporting that their unit chimes as it should when the power button is pressed, but the display is blank and nothing else happensThis has happened to 2 Win7 computers I had trial versions on AFTER the production version was released... coincidence? They both worked great until about 3 weeks ago.

How about Microsoft guy looking over Mac guy's shoulder at a dead screen saying, “Damn, even Vista worked better than that”.

99% likely this is a display cable issue. A mac should light the display almost immediately from power on.
It really sounds like to me they don’t have them properly packed for shipping. Cracked screens and disconnected display cables means the units took a real jostling in shipping.

Oh oh. Not good news for new Mac owners. My main computer is a 2007 MacBook that arrived with a crack on the surface. No big deal. After two years of daily use and spilled coffee cups the MacBook still works as good as new.

I was THIS close to switiching to Apple this time around , but as soon as the new ( non-i7models ) iMacs were released a variety of problems ( inc. QC issues ) were reported on various Mac fan sites so I decided to stick with Windows ( ordered an all-in-one HP Touchsmart 300 ). Now this report comes out !

Thank you Cabojoe... Often new models have problems that need to be ironed out. But the cracked screen issue seems to be anecdotal so far and may not be widespread. The flickering... that may be more serious and require a software fix.... or it could be a batch of bad parts.

Coincidence or pure BS? The trial version of Windows 7 will begin to ask you to buy it in March 2010, and should cripple itself in June 2010 if you are too cheap to put out the money.

Maybe someone in the packaging department was having a bad day. Since they are all broken on the same side, could have been just one bad step in the packaging line.
