A Swedish man who saved a woman from assault has been sentenced to prison rather than being applauded for performing a civic duty.
In a case which has provoked outrage across the country, Per-Anders Pettersson was found guilty of aggravated assault despite the would-be Samaritans claims he was acting in self-defence on behalf of 66-year-old Gard Forsgren who was being attacked in her car.
Forsgren, now 69, was assailed in 2006 while inside her vehicle near Nas in the central Swedish county of Dalarna when Pettersson intervened. He dragged the womans attacker from the car and hit him two times with a jack reports The Local. The two men were known to each other from a previous court case.
Peterrsson was sentenced to 12 months in a Norrkoping jail in a move which shocked Forsgren. He has been treated dreadfully and unjustly. Would it have been better if this other man had strangled me? she told reporters. He is the biggest angel that I have met, Forsgren added.
In the summer of 2006 Forsgrens vehicle was stopped by the drunken man who then forced himself into the car and placed her in a stranglehold which left her fearing for her life. In spite of her screams and the flashing hazard lights around 20 cars passed without stopping to assist.
Pettersson came to Forsgrens rescue by initially yelling at the attacked before striking him on the shoulder with the car jack he was wielding. A second blow to the head caused the 26-year-old to suffer a fractured a skull. This second strike rendered the self-defence claim inadmissible by law and Pettersson was fined SEK 50,000 in addition to the one year prison term.
Forsbergs assailant was placed on probation and ordered to pay SEK 8,000 in compensation.
Better to be judged by 12 than carried by six.
Socialist/Holder/Obama “justice.”
Seen in socialist hell holes all over Europe, especially the UK.
Ladies, PLEASE keep your windows closed, (or at most, just cracked open) and your car doors locked. If he can't enter the car, he can't put a strangle hold on you!
Also, as Grandma always told my mother & aunts, "never leave home without a large hat pin."
Cops and prosecutors have a very hard time proving you of violating a 'free victim zone', where guns and pepper spray, etc are banned.
Very true!
Save an innocent victim, go to jail.
A year in prison AND a $7,300 fine.
And the assailant gets probation and a $1,200 fine.
Jerks.
The ones where they wouldn't, I won't live.
I would consider a car jack over the head of the judge and fighting his way out of Sweden to be self-defense.
I wonder who the assailant was...?
A .45 to the chest would also work.
I wondered about this too. No name or nationality of the attacker was given. Hmmmmm——
I despise the Beatles with every cell in my body for what they did to help bring down the U.S. But in this one case, it seems appropriate to quote them:
"Bang, bang, Maxwell's silver hammer..."
Cheers!
Probably the Amish at it again.
Oh my!
This mn needs to be deported to the US. We could use more of his kind here.
Forrest J. Ackerman (former publisher of Famous Monsters of Filmland) was in Italy with his wife when an attacker smashed the car window and killed her in a robbery attempt (in 1990, when she was approx. 78 years old).
Having your windows rolled up may prevent some intrusions, but it won't make you 100% safe. Criminals in Europe can be quite savage and broad in their technique.
I do remember when that happened and we were appalled. We, especially my wife, were well acquainted with 4EJ in the 70s & 80s, when we still lived in SoCal, and were somewhat active in SF circles.
Still, it is good advice that is too often ignored, leading to needless attacks by those without a weapon, like this drunk.
Nothing is 100% effective, not even CCW; but why “invite” possible extra trouble by casual opportunists, just because a locked door won't stop the determined criminal?
