Thanks!
Not wanting to be taken as a smart alec but get used to it. We may as well practice voodoo if health care is voted in.
Our 13 year old got the flu, home for a week. Called doctor to get some tamiflu and he said he never gives this stuff because of the side effects.
I googled tamiflu side affects and don’t blame him, there can be some nasty stuff.
That, my friends, is Liquid Jamaflu.
With this, I suggest you stay at home and copiously apply the Rx with Movies On Demand.
I got my Tamiflu pills yesterday - no problems. Why do they need the liquid form?
You can always make the liquid from from pills, especially capsules. You need a decent scale to be able to do it right.
I sure hope this stuff works, I’m miserable and according to the Doctor, I have the bad one but I forget what he called it; maybe it was H1N1. It’s not the swine flu though. I just tried to call him to confirm and they’re closed. I’ll call tomorrow. I do feel slightly better today than yesterday before I took the Tamiflu.
I read the links. So much blah blah about shortage of the liquid form and pharmacists unable to get adequate supplies of the liquid they would use to liquify a pill.
But the CDC article, near the end under the topic “what if my child can’t swallow pills” gave simple directions: dump a capsule into a tablespoon of chocolate syrup, mix, and have the patient drink all of it.
So in reality the shortage of liquid Tamiflu is not a problem at all except for those unable to dump a capsule into chocolate syrup and mix. Maybe our citizens can’t be trusted with such a complicated recipe.
the liquid can be made from Tamiflu capsules by pharmacists, or even by parents at home... If you're not able to find a pharmacy equipped to make the liquid for you, the CDC has posted instructions for parents on how to make their own liquid Tamiflu out of the adult capsules. Thanks Daffynition.
All of the pharmacies around here will compound Tamiflu from 75mg capsules. The commercial suspension (out of stock everywhere) is 12mg/ml, and the compounded version is 15mg/ml. Also, it seems that all of the lower strength capsules are out of stock as well; 75 mg is all that’s available.
I fear that Tamiflu will be depleted before Seasonal Flu starts in January....
Tamiflu is not a cure. It has no virucidal activity. Taking Tamiflu early within 3 days of onset of symptoms may shorten the duration of the disease but it is NOT a cure. Tamiflu (generic name Oseltamivir phosphate) is an ethyl ester prodrug requiring ester hydrolysis to the active form oseltamivir carboxylate. Oseltamivir carboxylate is an inhibitor or influenza virus neuraminidase affecting release of viral particles. It does not “kill” the virus.

I took the oscillococcinum from France and it worked for me.
I could not get Tamiflu.
There was only one pharmacy that could compound down Tamiflu for our two year old granddaughter. She started medication within 24 hours after she became symptomatic foloowing exposure to H1N1. It worked very well. She was very sick for less than 48 hours.
