Why Don’t Arab Economies Bloom?
Human Events | 11/10/2009 | James Zumwalt

Posted on 11/12/2009 7:16:26 AM PST by ChessExpert

Sixty-one years ago, in May 1948, after nearly two thousand years of Jewish dispersal, the nation-state of Israel was created by U.N. mandate. As the “new guy” on the block, Israel immediately sought to become a responsible member of the world community. Surrounded by enemies and lacking natural resources, it faced an enormous challenge -- survival. Six decades later, it not only has survived but has become an economic oasis within a regional desert of poverty and despair. Today, Israelis enjoy a much better quality of life than its Arab neighbors possessing tremendous oil wealth.

Before discussing how Israelis became “the haves,” let us better understand why many Muslims remain “the have-nots.”

Listing the Muslim countries of the region, it is readily apparent most, for decades, have experienced one-man/one-family rule (Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Morocco, UAE, Syria, Bahrain, etc.) or, in the case of Iran, theocratic rule. As such, Muslim leaders retaining that sort of control have done so by doing nothing to endanger the status quo.

TOPICS: Business/Economy; Education; History; Religion
KEYWORDS: arab; freedom; israel; missinglink; muslim
The author quantifies his discussion with the number of patents, superior schools, stock exchange stocks, etc. Numbers tell the tale.

I think I recall seeing a stat on here, months ago, that asserted that the collective GDP of the Arab League was less than Spain’s.

El Cid would be happy. :)

Stated differently, why do Muslim countries tend to have extreme poverty, lack of education and radicalism?

Simply travel any Muslim country and you can see for yourself.

1. Control by Islam/Monarchies. Capitalism is a threat.
2. Education is a threat to Islam and the Monarchies.
3. Poverty is a great tool of control.

The poor, underpriviledged, complaining, suicidal, murderous, libral islamic muslims have only two things to make their "economy" better....

1. Oil. At least for those that live where oil is found, and as long as the West, Europe, and China still require the product.

2. obammer. The islamic muslim's champion, second coming, and messiah.

Without those two...the only thing islamic muslims have to offer is a murderous "religion" and a multitude of suicidal religious fanatics!

Not much of a society....and certainly fataly below the standards set by muslims in the 9th thru 11th centuries.

Speaking as a Midwesterner, you just can't have an economy
without a “pork bellies” market.

Sorry!

See post 8 for the link.

My favorite sentence from the article:

“The Israelis have converted the only bountiful resource found in their country — the human resource — into a tool for creating a better life for themselves.”

An unfortunate phrase. It can be interpreted in so many ways...many unpleasant.

Because they treat half the population like chattel, and treat the women worse. Venereal transfer of power rarely helps a society prosper.

Let me write that to apply to the contrast of America and Mexico.

Mexico is just as rich in natural resources as the United States.

Mexico has an impoverishment rate of nearly 80% and exports dissatisfied citizens, breaking up homes and families because they cannot produce valuable products that would lead to greater wealth and a burgeoning middle class.

The United State has exploited the one bountiful resource that makes a difference in wealth creation and job creation - the human resource and promotion of self determination.

They have turned the human resource into a tool for creating a better life for themselves and ultimately a stronger country.

Why don’t Muslim countries succeed? For much the same reason other third world countries don’t succeed.

1. The inability to obtain title to property.

- Because you don’t have title to property, you can’t leverage the property to obtain capital to start businesses.

2. The inability to legalized your business.

- Because you can’t legalized your business, you will always stay in the underground economy which in turn keeps your from obtaining capital and keeps you out of the global economy.

Third World people aren’t stupid. Third World people aren’t lazy. Look how successful they become once they come to America.

What keeps them down is their legal and governmental systems.

Because the kings and emirs spend their oil money on themselves and on terrorism instead of building a real economy.

Also because everyone studies Islamic theology which makes it hard to get a job and contributes nothing to a modern society. Menial tasks are looked down upon and done by third world imported labor. Technical jobs like engineering are “too hard” and few aspire to them. Thus the only main “jobs” that are filled are media censors and religious positions and you’re left with young people looking for work with few opportunities, life looks bleak so they turn back to religion, get indoctrinated by the local imam, and end up in terrorist organizations and possibly blowing themselves up in Iraq or Afghanistan or Gaza, etc...
