Coyotes? I highly doubt this. Coyotes would run away if you stepped towards them.

Concur. Sounds like wolves or wild dogs.

I would seriously doubt Coyotes were responsible. A small child or a small pet I've heard of, but never an adult.

I would have no qualms with shooting them on sight.

Actually, I know a guy who had a slight stroke and fell out of a tree stand while deer hunting.

He fought coyotes off him after falling on the ground. He HATES them, and is an expert on coyote hunting now. His techniques are pretty impressive, and he has been quoted extensively in outdoor magazines.

He also is an expert wild turkey caller, and avid turkey hunter, another reason he hates coyotes.

Agree. Never met a coyote that didn’t run when it saw me.

Oh no they wouldn't. Many who live on the edge of land that has been turned into housing development have lost their fear of man. I've seen them follow a little boy on his 4 wheeler back into my yard. They also attacked two of our German Shepards.

I’d believe a feral dog or Coydog. Doubtful on a Coyote unless she was down and bleeding.

Interestingly, a Mule is one of the most efficient Coyote killers. They let them get in on the rear legs and “bang, zoom - to the moon.” It’s comical to watch in a weird way.

Coyotes fiercely protect their dens, fighting to the death. I have seen coyotes take on bobcats (well once I saw a coyote pair chase a bobcat out of the area).
Once I was working in the desert, and took a wiz. The next day, I noticed that there were coyote tracks around where I had gone and it was still wet. Betting that a coyote had marked his territory over me, I made sure I did it again. Next day, same thing so I continued. After about 4 days of this, the coyote simply defecated on the spot, ending the discussion. He won as far as I was concerned.

I don’t know about the coyotes up there, but in the South they are only about 25-40 lbs. On the smallish dog side of sizes.

Coyotes have been getting much more aggressive of late.

I think they are mixed with dog.

There is a reason American ancestors knocked off the coyotes. I lived in a subruban area where they were very agressive with pets and people. When they live around people and nothing bad happens to them, they begin to think they are the boss. Just like an untrained aggressive dog.

Two coyotes attacked our cocker spaniel when she wandered off a trail where we (hubby and I) were hiking. She was terrified. It was definitely two COYOTES and it was very frightening. We had bear spray, but the coyotes fled upon seeing us. We were in the nether-regions of a state park at the time. A single coyote took down a fawn in a neighbors yards recently as well, viewed by our neighbor.

Many of the coyotes here in the northeast are actually part wolf. That is why they are usually bigger that the one in the southwest.

Since one of the “coyotes” was killed, I would think that
the RCMP’s could determine if it really is a coyote or not.

Anyway, very sad, prayers for her family.
