SAN DIEGO A man who sneaked a bag of his feces into a San Diego courtroom during his home-invasion robbery trial, smeared it on his lawyer and threw it at jurors has been sentenced to 31 years in prison.
-snip-
Several days after his request was denied, McGowan pulled out a bag of excrement he had hidden in his clothing, rubbed it on his lawyer and tossed it at the jury, hitting one jurors computer case.

I kind of figured it was a “mental disorder” he was trying to prove for a lesser sentence. It would have been more impressive if he pulled down his pants and crapped on the floor while barking like a dog.
Taking a plastic bag into the bathroom (jail cell?), carefully moving some of his poop into the bag, avoiding detection from the guards, finding the right place to hide it on his person so it could not be detected during a “pat down”, and finding the right time to throw it - pretty clever and well planned coming from a “crazy guy”.

Many “crazy guys” are remarkably resourceful and clever. Just because they’re crazy doesn’t mean they can’t also be intelligent, cunning and crafty at the same time.

has been sentenced to 31 years in prison. He'd get far less time for rape-rape.

What's so unusual about the guy? He probably got the idea from Hallmark.

There is a difference between "crazy" and "stupid". Recall the joke about the escaped mental patient who advised the driver who panics and overurns the hubcap containing all of the bolts for the tire (take one off of each of the remaining tires and put the spare on). "I'm crazy, not stupid".

I guess I’m looking at it as pleading the insanity thing as “I’m not in my right mind, I didn’t know what I was doing, I didn’t know it was wrong, etc.” I suppose more of a “mentally deficient” type of thing.
But I see what you mean between being crazy and smart. Sort of the Hannibal Lector thing (crazy but a mastermind).
Well, 31 years in prison is a long time to think about throwing your crap around. I’m sure he’ll have lots of times to remember that every time Big Sue comes around to to shove it back in there.

I wonder how many violent offenders will be let out of jail because of the pettiness of the judge to keep this man behind bars for 31 years.

Well, it does say home invasion robbery. I take that to mean the folks were at home when he came in, so not sure he would not qualify as a violent criminal. Unless he thought the people were gone, etc. Too bad the folks didn’t take care of the guy right then and there.
