Thought I would bring an fyi to freeper students and educators who have a valid .edu address.

Microsoft has a time limited offer for Windows 7 and MS Office. You can purchase Windows 7 Professional upgrade version for 29.99 and MS Office for 59.95.

Some schools have a partnership deal with MS and some others don't with this you can purchase software at the price the partner schools receive it. This is a time limited offer though as it ends on Jan 3, 2010.

Even non-students can get a .edu email address at this site:

Doesn’t work. Once signed up you get a screen that states the alternate email (my actual email) has to be confirmed before I can use my .edu email address. But there’s no link to confirmation, and no email sent to the alternate through which I can confirm.

Well, this is off to a fine start for Microsoft, isn’t it?

Dang. I have a coworker who says he successfully used his australia.edu email address to get 2 licenses of Win7.

Here's the pertinent part of the screen it takes me to:

Photobucket

I'm told I'm to confirm my alternate email before I can be approved. It gives me no address to which to write, nor do I get an email in my inbox to reply to. And the links are for changes or log out only.

Click on this image for an operating system (Linux) that is not only free , you can also boot up from it on a CD without having to alter your hard drive.

You were supposed to provide a real existing email address as your "alternate." When you do that, you get an email sent to your real email address with a link that activates your australia.edu account.

Here's what I got when I did that:

Your email address has been confirmed. An administrator must manually approve your account. This will occur within 24-48 hours. Thank you for your patience.

I did. That's my point. I provided my home email address I've used for years.

WTF Does your crappy OS have to do with an INFORMATIVE thread about a deal for people who WANT Windows 7?

Seriously grow up and become mature for once in your life.

It has to be a certifiable .edu AND a real email because you have to reply back to the email they send.

I submitted my request a couple weeks ago, I guess I need to make the purchase.....

Interesting - leaving us poor homeschoolers out in the cold since we don’t have an .edu....
