I know that stretch of I-15 quite well. I lived about fifty miles north of the crash site and went to school in Utah so I traversed that road for several years. The stretch near Inkom is desolate and harsh. The road cuts through lava rock flows from at least one nearby fissure volcano. That means the median strip in particular was made up of cracked and very uneven lava rock. In the past several years the state has tried to cushion the median strip where it is the most rocky but it is not forgiving to traffic off the road and it is an area where there are a lot of crashes, usually due to driver fatigue. However, if this bus took off from Pocatello, it would not have been on the road more than half an hour or so before the crash.

Seat belts would likely have saved lives and injuries.

And in Oregon too. 18 degrees two nights ago in Spokane.

From another article:

The high school band was heading home to American Fork, Utah, after a competition in Pocatello, Idaho.

According to ksl.com, one adult died. The student injuries are not serious. They think the bus driver had a medical condition.
