(CNN) -- "Saturday Night Live" was formed in the crucible of the mid-1970s, when Watergate brought respect for politicians to all-time lows, the counterculture was taking over comedy, and many television viewers were seeking out something fresh and bold.
Fred Armisen played Barack Obama in a talked-about sketch Saturday night on "Saturday Night Live." It was a powerful combination -- and after 34 years, the combination of "SNL" and politics can still strike sparks among political observers.
The most recent example came this past weekend when Fred Armisen, as President Obama, chided "those on the right" for saying that he was "turning this great country into something that resembles the Soviet Union or Nazi Germany."
Not true, said Armisen as Obama.
"When you look at my record," he said, "it's very clear what I've done so far -- and that is nothing

I am so sick of hearing Watergate Watergate Watergate after over 30 years. It was nothing more then a break-in and a cover-up, big deal. Compared to the crap that goes on in DC today it is small time. Give it a rest already.
That was probably the worst possible impersonation of Obama. Didn’t sound a thing like him.
SNL continues to be stupid. I miss Mad TV.

I looked at the sketch more as a complaint from the left hoping that Obama would get off his butt and enact his socialist agenda...

Amen! On a related thread a few days ago I was told that they killed Mad TV.I responded that I’d much rather watch a dead Mad TV than a Saturday Night “live”...
I have a great idea for a new “satire/comedy” show...if there are any closet-Hollywood producers here...(call me!) Let’s just say that I wrote this great scene with Obama and his telepromter.
The youth of this country can be easliy distracted by a shiny bit of metal and rhinestones.
