Forces' chopper pilot with the munchies makes stop for burgers
Ottawa Citizen ^ | 10/2/2009 | Linda Nguyen

A fast-food restaurant in this western Ontario city served cheeseburgers to a Canadian Forces pilot Thursday — while his helicopter was parked outside.

Michelle Patterson said Friday she thought something was wrong when she looked out one of the windows of the A&W restaurant. All she saw was flying dust.

"I thought, 'Oh gee,' and I went over to the side of our building and there was a helicopter there with a police car," she said.

Moments later, the helicopter pilot walks into the restaurant.

"He said he was here to pick up some supper before taking off again," said Patterson. "He joked about wanting to come through the drive-thru but he couldn't fit. Then I told him I would've delivered."

Patterson said the pilot ordered enough cheeseburgers, fries and root beer for six people. He said he was going to feed the other pilots at the airport before they refuelled and fly to Thunder Bay, Ont., and eventually back to Quebec.

After the pilot paid for his takeout, he walked back across the street to the parking lot of a baseball diamond where he had parked his helicopter and took off.

Excitement in an otherwise dull day at the A&W.

Members of the Canadian military (all 12 of them) have lots of free time. It’s not like they’re going to be used for anything.

If Moller’s Skycar ever got built, we’d all be flying into the burger joint for a snack and root beer.

People that fly need to eat. Is there a problem with that? When the blood sugar low light is on, any can of orange juice works. Anticipating that and combining it into a field trip shouldn't be a problem.

Other than the ones strolling around Afghanistan getting shot at and occasionally killed.

Don't forget the Canuk heros that swat down bad guys from over 1500 meters away. Those guys get special prayers, for living for weeks in crappy quarters, doing the specialist stuff they do, and going home and putting up with crap from the populace.

Canadian Snipers are my heros. And I'm old and grumpy, and don't take on heros without cause.

Back in 2001, a few days after the twin towers fell, I went to the Hudson waterfront on the NJ side to volunteer loading ships with supplies and equipment.

McDonald's had set up a mobile kitchen to feed all the volunteers near the main alleyway down to the wharf and the tent happened to also be situated right next to the Hudson-Bergen light rail line.

As shellshocked as we all were because of what had happened directly across the river from where we were, when the trolley motorman stopped right next to the McDonald's tent and one of their workers handed him up a couple cheeseburgers and drink, I had to laugh and yell to the motorman, "You want fries with that?"

“Michelle Patterson said Friday she thought something was wrong when

Well, I can attest that some Canadians do like the fare at A&W.
Having shared more than a few “frosty” mugs at the A&W restaurant
in Ponca City, Oklahoma maybe 30 years ago.

Some of the older/liberal politicians in Canada are detestable...
just like some of the current administration here in our USA.

Many of the younger Canucks are A-OK and/or have “defected to the USA”
like some of my younger ex-Canadian relatives.

The parking lot was full, so he tied it to a lamp post and left it running. (Thanks, Steven Wright)

I agree with Lurkina.n.Learnin the 55,000 or 65,000 military are good guys and some are hard core warriors, it is like France, don’t include the soldiers in the mocking of the nation.
