'Chemotherapy killed Patrick Swayze'
The Times of India ^ | 19 Sep 09 | Staff

Actress Suzanne Somers, who is herself a cancer survivor, thinks that chemotherapy has killed Patrick Swayze.

"They took a beautiful man" and "put poison in his body," the New York Post quoted her as saying.

Somers, who has a book about cancer coming out next month, said: "Why couldn''t they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins? . . . I hate to be this controversial . . . but I have to speak out."

If I’m ever diagnosed with cancer of any kind, I won’t have chemo.

My son is going on 3 years off treatment for Leukemia.

THANK GOD for chemo drugs!

Most people I know who’ve had chemo have done fine. I have several friends who’ve reached their 5 year mark, post breast cancer who attribute it to the chemo.

Here’s the thing, it’s a personal decision. Cancer’s going to kill you, if you think the chemo might help then go for it...if you think it’ll hasten your death then don’t.

Someone close to me is going through chemo right now with hardly any side effects. They’ve come a long way as far as meds to treat the side effects of chemo.

[[ I do believe alternative treatment may be as beneficial because cancer is the result of an out-of-whack immune system.]]

Don’t bet on it- and don’t beleive the ‘testimonials’ because you’ll never see testimonials by people who died and could have been saved had they aggressively attacked their cancer with chemo- do a side by side comparison of people ‘cured’ with all natural, and those ‘cured’ with chemo and radiation- You WILL find out that the survival of peopel hwo aggressively attack their disease with modern medicine is much much better- be sure to find out how many people didn’t survive on all natural- you’ll have to look hard for htis info because the all natural clinics do NOT reveal these numbers to us- they only parade oroudn hteir best cases in order to sell their wares.

Bottom line is that natural MAY give a modicum of help, BUT modern medicine is proven to help in many cases- even if it makes one sick while goign htrough it- a person should not forego modern medicine- but should probably do both- some major hospitals now have complimentary treatments that go along with modern medicines- and it wil lbe soem time before we have stats about whether or not it actually helps to use both- but preliminary results do indicate their MAY be soem benifit doign both, but that htere is definately not a beneifit of foregoing modern medicine and doign just natural- Natural companies and clinics WAY oversell their wares- and htis is irresponsible, and htey are preying on peopel who are sick and desperate, and htey ARE keeping info fro mthem when sellign hteir wares- Be VERY VERY careful about htis. Natural clinics make claims that are NOT backed up by the evidence and statistics

30 years ago cancer was a death sentence.

I disagree.
30 years ago last month, I started 18 months worth of chemo, some radiation, after stage 3 cancer surgery.

Can you explain the link between cigarettes and PANCREATIC cancer?

Would probably have to pass also on chemo Rx if the primary cancer is pancreatic since prognosis for survival is very low anyway. Why extend the agony. For other types of cancer depends on the stage and whether chemo Rx can arrest it and extend quality of life as well for many years. Otherwise I pray God to pull the plug on me if faced with mortal cancer.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, some of my doctors recommended chemotherapy for my after care, and other doctors said it was not necessary for my specific type of cancer

Sounds like Summer had surgery but refused follow up Chemo --if true that is not the same as just building up the immune system

same as the husband of a friend we knew. He took one treatment and said no more. he remained at home with his wife and family caring for him. Was in his own world at times and slipped away with no pain. Was amazing.

I wouldn’t say she is an idiot. I think healthy greens and fruits may not do the trick but they sure beat poison being pumped into your system. At least heathly greens and fruits can’t do you any harm while on the other hand...poison?????

A fascinating story. I'm glad that it has a happy ending!

Like I said previously, chemotherapy behaves differently for every single person who takes the treatment. And every treatment is specifically designed in length and dosage for each individual.

When I had my treatment in 1991, I was already in a wheelchair because of my spinal cord injury. At that time, the doctors told me that because it would be impossible to keep me in a sterile environment, I would likely die. They suggested I wait 5 years, and maybe there would be advances in the treatment that would make it more likely I could survive.

I told them that since I had come 3,000 miles and that it took over a year to find a donor, I wanted to go ahead with the treatment. They made me sign all kinds of liability waivers.

There is no question that I was cured by the treatment, but also no doubt in my mind that I was saved by the literally thousands of people, friends, family and complete strangers, prating for me back home!

While in the hospital (Fred Hutchinson in Seattle) I received hundreds and hundreds of cards and letters. It was humbling sometimes how many cards I got, and it took the nurses and doctors quite by surprise. And so did my surviving the treatment!

All the glory goes to God! AMEN!
