'Chemotherapy killed Patrick Swayze'

Actress Suzanne Somers, who is herself a cancer survivor, thinks that chemotherapy has killed Patrick Swayze.

"They took a beautiful man" and "put poison in his body," the New York Post quoted her as saying.

Somers, who has a book about cancer coming out next month, said: "Why couldn''t they have built him up nutritionally and gotten rid of the toxins? . . . I hate to be this controversial . . . but I have to speak out."

What do Freepers think of Chemo? My father went downhill fast after his second round of chemo. Made me wonder?

I have always heard said that you hope the chemo kills the cancer before the person.

Chemo is hit or miss. It depends on the overall health of the person. But I think Somers is grasping at straws here. Pancreatic cancer is one of the more deadlier types of cancer and Swayze would have been a goner anyway.

I agree with her.

I agree, he had a much better chance had he raised his bodies PH which would have brought his blood oxygen level way up (which kills cancer). He should have worked on his Gut Flora, eating lots of leafy greens and possibly went on the Burgstiner Wellness Protocol. Never underestimate the power of Magnesium, it’s incredible. Also, NAC and so on ...

However, we will never know, but one thing we do know, his body wasn’t lacking in radiation, it was probably lacking in the above items, along with key amino acids ....

If people knew the lousy success rate of Chemo they’d be shcoked. My brother was given six months to live. They started in with chemo...he literally ripped the stuff out of him and said that if he was going to die he was going to do it in his own time...he went on to do alternative medicines and lived for another seven years. Some of them very good ones at that.

Chemo and radiation kill EVERYTHING.

THAT is the idea - kill the bad stuff but unfortunately the immune system is also unable to work. It's a gamble you take. Let cancer kill you or fight it. If he didn't have Chemo he would undoubtedly die. If he does have Chemo he has a chance to KILL THAT and work up his immune system again if the cancer is conquered. As a former cancer survivor, this critic SHOULD KNOW THAT.

My Mother had two Chemo treatments and didn’t like it at all. She asked me if I thought she should continue it, and gain maybe a few extra months, months where she would have no hair and feel sick 24/7. I told her it was up to her. I said that, as much as I would love to have her around a few extra months, I hated to see what the Chemo was doing to her. Her cancer had spread everywheree, and she opted to ride it out and die at home. It was one of the hardest conversations of my life.

“Chemo is hit or miss.”

Exactly.

You can eat all the “healthy foods” in the world but THAT will NOT conquer cancer. This actress is an IDIOT!

Pancreatic cancer is a death sentence -- often within 6 months. Swayze lived with it for two years, and while that is not unheard of, it is certainly remarkable.

I have to credit his doctors and the treatment that they approved for Patrick's longevity.

I had cancer. I can tell you that I knew that the chemo would kill me before the cancer. I stopped two weeks into a sixth month treatment. I was told by the treating doctor: then you will be dead in six months without treatment.
That was November 1987.

Yeah, chemo is tough. But you know what death is tough too, and cancers can do things you wouldn't always expect until they happen.

Once upon a time ~ way back in my career at USPS Headquarters, four of my close work associates died of liver cancer over the period of about a year.

Each one died a little differently, but for the last month of their lives they took massive quantities of morphine and were essentially incoherent.

Treatments were few and far between in those days, and that meant that from the date of diagnosis to the date of death was about 6 months.

At the moment I am close to an individual whose chemo has demonstrably STOPPED a spot of cancer on her liver that was probably there 3 years ago. She had a lot of spots elsewhere as well and has had some surgical reduction.

This Somers woman imagines that this has to do with toxins ~ and it might, but cancer also has to do with things that some chemotherapy can do something about.

I'll take the word of the oncologists over that of any entertainer.

Chemo might kill you, yes. “Nutrition” and “removing the toxins” can help you survive the chemo, but by itself it is useless: The cancer WILL kill you.

Have several friends and family members who have survived cancer. One ex (still on great terms, broke up because of geography) was all into nutrition, healthy living, etc. What did she do when diagnosed? Got surgery and chemo. She was so healthy that they REALLY upped the chemo because she could handle it. It was hell, but it worked.

My cousin’s father in law is a survivor.

Even I’m susceptible to it having two endocrine conditions in the neck.

My mother had radiation therapy and didn’t survive long at all going from healthy to dead in about 6 months so I’m one of those who believe that sometimes the cure is worse than the illness.

Chemo is expensive and the gov will stop paying for it eventually under their plan- if it was oil, they would tax it to find a better solution.
