And the build quality sucks, by all accounts. The crash tests for makers like Brilliance and Chery are nothing short of shocking. People said the same things about Hyundai back in the 1990's.

Quite different motivations. How long has China had access to a myriad of modern manufacturing techniques? The motivations of the State Owned Enterprises/State fron companies are a bit different.

No they didn't. If you check it out on YouTube, you can hear the German crash test engineers *laughing* at the car at the end of the test.
China does not value human life enough to build reliable safety systems into their cars: they will negotiate with DC politicians to have the standards for their cars *relaxed*.
And DC will jump, since they have funded their socialist overspending with Chinese money, while selling out our infrastructure and means to keep our own country safe.
NO cheers, unfortunately.

When are the Chinese gonna copy the covair, gremlin or aztec?????
******************************************************
The Corvair and Gremlin were solid cars ,, if you want to name Chevies and an AMC that sucked I’d go with VEGA , Chevette and Citation ,, for AMC it’d have to be the Pacer... although any AMC with the bendix tranny and vacuum operated wipers would do.

I wish we could outsource K-12 public schools to communist China. The students would learn how to be capitalists.

Why would anybody copy this ugly POS? What is the real version of this? ************************************************** Take a trip to any Caribbean island or most of Asia and you will see these everywhere ... think back to the 1980's RWD Japanese vans ,, those are still produced by Toyota Nissan and others ,, they are cheap cargo and people movers. This looks like a newer version Toyota HiAce van ....

Let the Chinese build all the knockoffs they want. We used to drive similar vehicles up to about 1969.
They should do a knock off of a Pontiac GTO,circa 1967,
with a V8 and a 4 bbl carb with a Hurst Standard shift knockoff.
They would sell like hotcakes.
We could import them to obviate the cash for clunkers program
and other green initiatives.

For the last thirty years or so I have heard of the Chinese "catching up" in one thing or another.
Just what have they caught up one in that time?
Other than cheap badly made consumer products.
