I was in the yard with my sons yesterday and heard this plane fly by several times. It continued to take off and land repeatedly. I figure that someone was practicing their landing an take offs. I live very close to the airport and drove over to snap some pictures. Any guess of the make of this fine aircraft. You tube link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F--oNoIK5aQ

It ain't my plane. I'd be looking for a C-205 or a C-206, or a Republic SeaBee, if I had the cash. Yeah you have to like smelly oily leaky noisy radial engines a lot.... I also have a lot of time in 205-6's...two normally aspirated and one turbo...really nice modern airplanes if you are into that sort of thing. It's funny you also like Seabee's....now THAT is something rare and different..!

I agree about the explanation, but sometimes its better to identify yourself by the aircraft type "Cessna 195" instead of the name given to the type.
Again, it's only a suggestion. I'm sure you know how busy the traffic pattern can get. And again, I love old aircraft. They're beautiful. I just don't trust today's controllers. They're pushed too much from management, and once they're rated, they're usually on their own, with the supervisor not in the room.

Our neighbors at the end of the runway have a 195. It is an absolutely gorgeous plane. I have to admit to being envious every time they take it out.I've owned many airplanes over the years but have had my 195 for 15 years now....it is true love for sure...:o)

I think it's a usable aircraft that's sturdy and forgiving in water landings and takeoffs.
The fuelburn is a little high, but it's got room for five people, and anyone can work on a cessna 205, or 206, and they can also carry 1,000 lbs usable load. All can operate out of 1,000 ft strip.

During my formative years, my father had a tiedown at Alexandria Field near Pittstown, NJ. There was an airworhty UC-78 there, owned by Bob Boyer.
As a young boy, I thought it was the coolest, and BIGGEST airplane ever. Any big twin that my brother and I saw was, by default, refered to as a "Bamboo Bomber", since that's what we knew and saw when we were at the airport.
As far as I know, it's still airworthy and at N85. There are only like 25 or so of these planes in airworthy condition.
To: Niteflyr
Well, I understand.
Just keep your head up, and don't let them cut you too short on your approach, and then jam a large or heavy up your 6.

Yes...and with the cargo doors you can can get off the ground with about anything you can get in through the opening...but being a guy who likes the steerable wheel on the other end I'd take a 185...:o)

I'm not a pilot, but I understand the "duck waddle" to avoid a ground loop. If, and again, IF I could afford an aircraft, I'd need to consider cost, and fuel cost might change my mind. I'd need to stay as cheap as I could without getting stupid. I'd want something that could operate out of about 750 feet. I've got a 1240ft by 50 ft landing strip, way out in the middle of nowhere, and on top of a hill. But I'd want to build a hanger before I got the aircraft, and then I'd need to get my license before I bought an aircraft. If I went experimental, I'd seriously look at a
Zenith Ch 801, simply because I believe I'd like to fly slow and low to see the country side. But again, I'm NOT a pilot. Other interest might be a Mooney Midget, but it's not practical.

Yes you have to keep your heels off the floorboards when landing a 195 if you don't want to make big expensive sounds as you wad it up in a ball as many have been. I did an extensive rebuild of the forward fuselage in mine due to poor repairs from an earlier groundloop accident ...
