Residents in Old East Dallas say they are fed up with dogs roaming the streets at night killing their cats. They've heard the killings outside their bedroom windows and watched the dogs trot off.
But they don't know what to do. They can't capture the dogs themselves. They say Animal Control doesn't come out while the dogs are still there. And they say police won't respond if humans aren't in danger.
"I'd just like to get a gun and sit on my front porch and shoot them. I'm just so mad," said Will Olliverson, of Junius Heights. He found his 15-year-old cat dead in his front yard last week, and a veterinarian told him it had been shaken to death by a large animal.
He said a neighbor's cat was killed the same day. In Bryan Place, residents on one street say they know of at least a dozen cat killings this year. One resident, David Allen, saw three dogs killing a cat outside his window last week, and then saw one of the dogs Thursday morning in a neighbor's yard with a dead cat. It helps that people are spotting trends, said City Coucil member Angela Hunt.
She promised Friday to compile information about the problems and arrange for teams from Animal Control to respond. "It's just like a criminal case,"
Hunt said. "When you have a string of burglaries, you're going to try to gather as much information from witnesses that you can. We need to know what we're looking for and where they might be."

He might as well do it (just don’t say anything to anyone about it... LOL...). Let them start finding dead dogs around, instead of dead cats... :-)
Keep your cats inside. Duh!
I solved that problem. I gave my cat a gun.
Pellet guns work great for such situations. They won’t kill the dog but convey a very clear message.
So...everyone should keep their pets in, I guess.
I hate it when cats poop in my garden.
Pullet guns don’t kill, but make sure no one sees you using it, so you don’t get charged with animal cruelty.
Two thoughts.
1: I knew a guy back before there was an animal control that you could call who made a slingshot with a 200lb pull. He gave the neighbors who let dogs run loose on trash day 2 chances to keep their dog out of his trash bags. The third time they got bagged with the trash he had to pick up, 3/4 inch ball bearing in the skull.
2: About 35years ago in Broken Arrow there was a couple who had a lynx as an exotic pet. A German shepherd known for hunting cats in the neighborhood managed to get over the fence into this couple’s back yard. It didn’t make it out.
In the city of 300,000 where I live all loose, running animals are illegal, dogs and cats. Owners are expected to be responsible, keeping them on their own property, if not, the city will loan you a live trap and accept the catch at the animal shelter.
They might try following leash laws and not allowing their cats to roam at night, either. Take them inside. Problem solved. The dog will be caught by animal control.
I like cats. Never understood the mentality of people in an urban or suburban setting, who set their cats loose on the neighborhood, and then complain, though. Tracks and scratches on the hood, roof and trunk of my cars, catching and killing wildlife that I’d been at pains to attract with feeders ... nope, that’s not their problem because ... what?
Be responsible. Control the outside behavior of the animals in your care. Dog, cat or wombat, doesn’t matter.
Yup! I've got 5 cats and if a dog attacks any one of them...dead dog!
Way to go. Damn people that have dogs and cannot restrain them from public street, night or day, should be fined and jail. Shoot the damn dogs.
What about birds, squirrels, and possums?
Seems like they cause damage on an even larger scale.
Shouldn’t someone be held responsible for leaving food where they can get it?
Probably so. It is equally reasonable.

Speaking from experience ...
Cats view rodents like dogs view cats. I qualified my statement to urban and suburban for this reason. In rural areas and on farms, a good “mouser” is invaluable. They’re rarely treated as pets, though.
.22 pellet rifle. 1000fps $150 don’t be too sure it won’t kill a dog
Capture? Why not pop them with an air rifle?
