Whole Foods CEO writes about alternative to Obamacare; liberals go ballistic
abcnews.com ^ | August 14, 2009 | Emily Friedman

Joshua has been taking the bus to his local Whole Foods in New York City every five days for the past two years. This week, he said he'll go elsewhere to fulfill his fresh vegetable and organic produce needs.

"I will never shop there again," vowed Joshua, a 45-year-old blogger, who asked that his last name not be published.

Like many of his fellow health food fanatics, Joshua said he will no longer patronize the store after learning about Whole Foods Market Inc.'s CEO John Mackey's views on health care reform, which were made public this week in an op-ed piece he wrote for The Wall Street Journal.

Michael Lent, another Whole Foods enthusiast in Long Beach, Calif., told ABCNews.com that he, too, will turn to other organic groceries for his weekly shopping list.

"I'm boycotting [Whole Foods] because all Americans need health care," said Lent, 33, who used to visit his local Whole Foods "several times a week."

"While Mackey is worried about health care and stimulus spending, he doesn't seem too worried about expensive wars and tax breaks for the wealthy and big businesses such as his own that contribute to the deficit," said Lent.

In his op-ed, "The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare," published Tuesday, Mackey criticized President Barack Obama's health care plan.

Plantations are nice.
With the Fugitive Lib Act,
Runaways go back.

It is easier
To accept the yoke and bit
When the gate is closed.

Maybe that would be the case for the bars that you a I are familiar with.

But I am sure the people in the trendy bars that this fag is used to would find him “upwardly mobile and forward thinking”.

Round here he’s just a fag.

I think it depends on who is working in their behind the scenes kitchen, because ours doesn’t have them all the time. They do have great pizza and sandwiches, too.

Ours gets cakes and pastries from a local bakery called Rolf’s Patisserie. Fantastic stuff!

I’m trying to remember the last time the MSM publicized a conservative boycott of something.

Maybe, but methinks that when a (relatively normal) woman looks for a mate, tops on her list is not going to be a 45 year old blogging granola eater whose primary asset is a paid-ahead bus card.

You can parse that pretty easily, starting with “relatively normal” and “mate”. If granola man is really “cute” (whatever the F that means LOL) he might get lucky if it is late and he offers to drive her home in her car bc she is too drunk.

"I will never shop there again,"

The actions of another ignorant liberal. Attack the messenger and ignore the message.

Just think how refreshing it would be hear some mental midget liberal refute the message in a cogent manner. Instead, they usually react in an uninformed and misinformed emotional state.

I am skeptical about the value of organic foods to begin. Investor’s Business Daily (easily the best newspaper in the country) recently reported the following:

“Organic food is no healthier than ordinary food, a large U.K. study found. Despite a small number of differences in nutrition between organic and conventionally produced food, no evidence of any extra health benefit was found, London researches said. The result was the same for studies of meat, dairy and eggs.”

IBD 7/30/09

Seems to me that slapping an organic sticker on something is a license to jack up prices.

While I am pleased that the CEO of Whole Foods has taken a common sense approach to health care, he will have to do more than that to get me to part with my money in there.

He could begin by cutting his exorbitant prices.

He could also offer more balance. I see lots of liberal books (such as Algore’s Earth in Balance), magazines, and tee shirts in the stores but nothing remotely conservative to counterbalance it. If the guy is such a big libertarian, why not stock a few Ayn Rand novels on the book shelves?

In my area Whole Foods is still a big liberal hang out. It has the feel of one of BHO’s campaign HQs. Lots of Priuses with BHO bumperstickers in the parking lot. If weren’t the fact that my wife occaisionally shops there I would never go near the place. There is no value and there are lots and lots of liberals.

A better alternative is Trader Joe’s. They have excellent produce and fresh vegeatables, pre-packaged gourmet foods and fine wines. It is very healthy and the prices are much , much more reasonable than WF.

“””Never been to a Whole Foods?””””

Can’t says I have. First of all, I don’t own a pair of Birkenstocks. Secondly, they don’t sell horse feed or air tools so I got no use for it.

He reads more libertarian than liberal:

http://www2.wholefoodsmarket.com/blogs/jmackey/2006/11/09/conscious-capitalism-creating-a-new-paradigm-for-business/

Voluntary Exchange

In a capitalistic market economy business is ultimately based on voluntary exchange; all the main constituencies of a business (such as customers, employees, suppliers, and investors) voluntarily exchange with the business to create value for themselves and for others. No constituency is coerced to exchange against their will. This voluntary exchange for mutual benefit is the ethical foundation of business (and capitalism). For example, if customers are unhappy with the prices, the services, or the selection of my business, Whole Foods Market, they are free to shop at another competitor. If our team members are unhappy with their wages and benefits, or the working conditions, they are free to seek a job with a different firm that provides more of what they seek. If investors in a public corporation such as Whole Foods Market are unhappy with the economic returns being generated, they are free to sell their shares and invest their money in some other alternative. If suppliers want better terms or different product placement than we are willing to give they are free to seek alternative outlets to sell their products. All the constituents therefore exchange voluntarily for mutual benefit, and they are free to exit the relationship whenever they wish. This voluntary exchange for mutual benefit creates the ethical foundation of business and that is why business is ultimately justified to rightfully exist within a society. This ethical foundation of business doesn’t necessarily mean that everything any particular business does is always ethical, but only that voluntary exchange for mutual benefit is itself an ethical process. A business is still expected to behave ethically in its voluntary exchanges (not lie, steal, or cheat) and to be responsible for any negative impacts it may create (for example, environmental pollution).

“I’m trying to remember the last time the MSM publicized a conservative boycott of something.”

Builder’s Emporium (I think) dissed NRA/RKBA and was gone inside a year. MSM blamed it on the “poor economy” but there was indeed a boycott, passed on person-to-person. Effective without MSM being involved at all.

Then there was KMart and Rosie, or was that Roseann?

First of all, I don’t own a pair of Birkenstocks.

I can't stand that Birkenstock fee either.

Secondly, they don’t sell horse feed or air tools so I got no use for it.

That got me, too. I once ran out of air-ratchets and had to eat a whole set of whitworth wrenches. Freakin' Whole Foods. What are they good for?

If investors in a public corporation such as Whole Foods Market...

((((((

I really like this discussion of “Voluntary Exchange.” Thanks for posting it.

It should be repeated regularly in many situations to people who live with their hand out.

At the town hall meeting/demonstration in my area, conservatives chanted to the union crowd across the street:

All we are saying

Is pay your own bills!
