Incredibly, President George W. Bush told French President Jacques Chirac in early 2003 that Iraq must be invaded to thwart Gog and Magog, the Bible's satanic agents of the Apocalypse.
Honest. This isn't a joke. The president of the United States, in a top-secret phone call to a major European ally, asked for French troops to join American soldiers in attacking Iraq as a mission from God.
Now out of office, Chirac recounts that the American leader appealed to their "common faith" (Christianity) and told him:
"Gog and Magog are at work in the Middle East. ... The biblical prophecies are being fulfilled. ... This confrontation is willed by God, who wants to use this conflict to erase his people's enemies before a New Age begins."
This bizarre -- seemingly deranged -- episode happened while the White House was assembling its "coalition of the willing" to unleash the Iraq invasion. Chirac says he was boggled by Bush's call, and "wondered how someone could be so superficial and fanatical in their beliefs."

It’s such an important section of scripture, especially for now when we see Israel becoming a nation in 1948, the Jews returning ‘home’ after the dispersion, and other events that we feel clearly show the soon return of Christ. People need to be more aware, especially Christians. I don’t think the church always interprets scripture correctly and if the Holy Spirit can’t teach you, who really can? Read it for yourself. You aren’t stupid and neither is the Holy Spirit. I know interpretations differ, but He is able to show you what He means.
I was raised Catholic and attended Parochial grade school and continuing religious education after that, and there wasn’t a huge focus in our church about the End Times (perhaps that’s why it interests me so much nowadays). I remember our 4th grade teacher (a “civilian” and not a nun) thinking WWIII (between Russia & the U.S.) would be the famed battle.
I also remember during a week-long retreat in High School talking about the End Times and recognizing the passage about the creatures of the sea dying and the man who was teaching us (a seminary student I believe) said it would probably be pollution that results in the dead fish and such...
Other than that I don’t remember learning much about it all... I think the main exhortation we received that ‘covered’ this whole situation was just to ALWAYS be ready for the Lord’s return (or your own death) because end times or not, we could perish at any moment, really.

President Bush Meets with French President Chirac
Remarks by the President in Courtesy Call with President Chirac
Hotel Royal Evian, France
THE PRESIDENT : First of all, I want to thank Jacques for his warm hospitality. We've had a really good meeting. This morning we talked about our common desires to grow our economies. I thought it was a very interesting and fantastic meeting, I really did.
Today I'm going to meet with Jacques here in a little bit and ask his advice on the Middle East. He's a man who knows a lot about the Middle East, he has got good judgement about the Middle East, and we will spend some time discussing that.
I know there's a lot of - a lot of people in both our countries wondering whether or not we could actually sit down and have a comfortable conversation. And the answer is absolutely. We can have disagreements, but that doesn't mean we have to be disagreeable to each other. And so I'm very glad I came and would say absolutely that this has been a very helpful and a positive meeting. Thank you, sir, for your hospitality.
(President Chirac spoke in French, untranslated.)
THE PRESIDENT: We've agreed to take one question apiece. Terry, do you want to ask a question?
Q Mr. President, can you tell us your expectations for the summit in Sharm el-Sheikh? And what are you hearing from the region ?
THE PRESIDENT: Well, first let me talk about my expetations for the G8. They have been met. I was hoping to come to Europe and to say that a united Europe working with America can do a lot of good - it can do a lot of good on issues such as fighting terror, or working on matters such as proliferation. We can do a lot of good to help those who suffer in the world. And so the expectations - at least as far as I'm concerned -- have been met here.
My expectations in the Middle East are to call all the respective parties to their responsibility to achieve peace. And to make it very clear that my country, and I, will put in as much time as necessary to achieve the vision of two states living side-by-side in peace .
I fully understand this is going to be a difficult process. I fully understand we need to work with our friends, such as France, to achieve the process. I know we won't make progress unless people assume their responsibilities. The first message is I will dedicate the time and energy to move the process forward. And I think we'll make some progress - I know we're making progress.
(President Chirac spoke in French, untranslated.)
THE PRESIDENT: Yes, and I want to thank President Chirac's support in the latest resolution in the United Nations. Listen, we must be frank, we went through a difficult period. I understand his position, he made it very clear to me in the very beginning. There was no question where Jacques Chirac stood. And I made it - I made it clear where I stood. And that's why I can say we've got good relations, because we're able to be very honest with each other.
But when it came time to focus on a free Iraq, a healthy Iraq, a prosperous Iraq, we're in agreement and we will move together to ensure that the Iraqi people have now got the capacity to run their own country. It's going to take them time to get there. It's a difficult situation in Iraq, but we are committed to a free Iraq and together we can make that happen more quickly than if we were still at odds on the issue.
Thank you, Jacques, appreciate it.
(President Chirac spoke in French, untranslated.)

Well the truth of the claim aside; I still wonder what the Hungarians thought of us demonizing the Germans by calling them “Huns” as the Hungarians (correctly or not) revere the Huns as their forefathers.
Thanks much for your kind reply.
Have a blessed weekend.
Heading off this afternoon to church men’s retreat through Sunday.
Whether it is an important section of scripture is indeed a question.
The Catholic church and the other traditional churches tend to emphasize the teachings of Christ, and the doctrines of the Pauline Epistles, above everything else.
Revelations is generally overlooked, and the Old Testament as well.
Interesting question, I don’t know. The Hungarians were on the other side in both World Wars for what its worth.
Dubya has been duped with the idea that contemporary events have prophetic significance, just like the rest of his futurist cronies.
The only mention of Gog and Magog in the NT is AT THE CONCLUSION of the "thousand years" of Revelation 20.
Once again, futurists misinterpret/misrepresent the OT by ignoring the NT.
WHEN HE DECLARED that as long as there were stars, HIS EVERLASTING PROMISES TO THE CHILDREN OF JACOB WOULD REMAIN IN FORCE . . .
is a LOT WISER route to God's favor and to avoid His stern censure
Than is any kind of RUBBER BIBLE'D, ALICE-IN-WONDER-LAND-FRUIT-BASKET-UPSET-MONSTER-MASH-MATRIX-SCHOOL-OF-THEOLOGY pile of stinking heresy about the topic.
You seriously misunderstand Bush, imho. See my earlier ping to you from this thread.
I see the Pres. here spiritualizing “G&Mg.” into a general spirit of war in the mideast.
Ezekiel is the primary mention of G & Mg and not Revelation, and I’m thinking that a spiritualized millenial reign (already realizING) would also explain the Pres.
I’d bet money, given his background, that he’s probably post-mil. Place money goes on amil.
My sense from knowing a little about some of his spiritual ‘handlers’ and teachers is that you’re quite wrong.
How much do they pay you?
You said — How much do they pay you?
—
Well, heck! It’s the same amount you get... LOL...
Actually this ridiculous lefty story has been circulating for years. Came out right after Chirac died. There are similar stories with other deceased world leaders. The interesting thing is that it tops the “birthers” claims by a wide margin. It probably came out now in order to divert attention from Obama’s problems.
Thank you very much. Good stuff.
“The only mention of Gog and Magog in the NT is AT THE CONCLUSION of the “thousand years” of Revelation 20.”
Interestingly enough, Babylon is not mentioned by name in Ezekiels prophecies against the nations in chapters 25-32, Gog (Ezekiel 39-39), however, derived from a Sumerian loan word gug; is a cryptic reference to the forces of evil foreseen by Ezekiel and already operative in the kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar, Babel or Babylon. This supplies the missing judgment message and fits the apocalyptic character of the book by giving it an immediate limited fulfilment in the fall of Babylon in Ezekiels day, and a long range complete fulfilment in the latter days.
Babylon, in scripture, is synonymous with godless government under Nimrod (Gen. 10:8-10); under Nebuchadnezzar (Dan. 1:4:37); under Mystery Babylon of the last days (Rev. 14:8; 17:5); and under Gog at the end of history (Rev. 20:7-15).. The Sumerian loan word gug means darkness, a suitable synonym for the ruler of end-time Babylon, the ruler of this world (John 12:31; 14:30), and Satan, the prince of darkness (Acts 26:18; Eph. 6:12; 2 Pet. 2:4) who counterfeits himself as an angel of light (2 Cor. 11:14).
Nebuchadnezzar personifies the cryptic reference of Gog. His father overthrew Assyria, the dominant world power of the day by forming an alliance with king of Media. The alliance was sealed by the marriage of Nebuchadnezzar to Amytis, the daughter of the king of Media. By this marriage, Nebuchadnezzar became the prince of Meshech, Tubal, Gomer, and Togarmah (Ezekiel 38:2,6).

Wow, that’s really sad. I hope you are reading them, buwaya. We need to know the entire Bible, not just portions of it. Thanks for letting me know. M
Thank you very much. I wish you a blessed one too.
