Netanyahu behind Obama birth rumors: Report

The Israeli government has allegedly used its influence in American politics to strengthen the rumors about US President Barack Obama's birthplace.

On Monday, well-known investigative journalist Wayne Madsen said Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's entrenched alliance with the America-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), various neoconservative groups and fundamentalist Christian organizations had made it "very easy for him to bring this whole canard back" about allegations that Obama has been born in Kenya rather than the United States.

"And it looks like he has done that as a way to put political pressure and try to tip Obama off his high favorability ratings at the present time," he added.

The Constitution bars people born outside the US from running for president. Obama's birthplace has been verified as Hawaii by the island state's Health Department and the president has presented his birth certificate online.

The claimants to the contrary, called 'birthers', are lead by California attorney Orly Taitz who has filed in the federal court Kenyan papers, which certify that Obama is Kenyan-born.

The Washington-based journalist said that "just after this fake birth certificate came out, she [Taitz] pops up in Tel Aviv two days later."

"She is originally from Moldova, very closely tied to Likud, Netanyahu and also Foreign Minister (Avigdor Lieberman) who is also a native of Moldova," he told Russia Today.

Asked about the Israeli motive for the move, the Washington-based journalist said "The Netanyahu government is very upset with Obama over the Obama administration's insistence that there be a freeze on settlements including in East Jerusalem [al-Quds]. So that couples with the reticence of the Obama administration to take any military action against Iran, which Netanyahu's government favors, has brought this old story back to life."

I respect your beliefs but I don’t believe that Obama is an impostor or constitutionally unfit for office. I think he is gravely and dangerously wrong about a number of things but that is different. Bottom line - foreign heads of state do NOT need to be interfering in our internal political matters. When did this become acceptable?

Barry the native born citizen. Natural born may require more than popping out on US sovereign territory, but it is a least a necessary condition.

Assuming there are actually goods to deliver. Assuming he isn't trading on rumor and innuendo that lacks a sound basis in fact. When did it become acceptable for a foreign head of state to interfere with America's internal politics in an attempt to undercut support for our president? I don't care if he is the opposition - This is an internal matter and foreigner powers and agents need not interfere.

To comment is not to the same thing as this. If the PM of Israel believes these things then let him speak up and announce that on the world stage - much as Obama spoke up on the matter of Honduras. I would disagree with him, just as a disagreed with Obama, but I would have for more respect for him if he did that than if what this story says is true.

I do not believe that foreign interference through skullduggery and operatives is acceptable. I don't care if the douchebag in office is our opposition or not.

I don't agree with or like those strings but we can put any strings on our military and financial assistance that we want. Israel should reject assistance that comes with those conditions. (I suspect that Obama & company would back waaaay off if Israel issued a flat rejection and American citizens started looking into it.) At any rate - this is, again, not the same thing as skullduggery, innuendo, and rumor used to attack the legitimacy of our head of state.

Taking a stand against foreign heads of state using rumor and innuendo to attack the legitimacy of ours shouldn't be controversial. It should be basic to maintaining American self-determination.
