Preparing for civil unrest
Backwoods Home Magazine ^ | current issue | Claire Wolfe

Posted on 08/10/2009 12:52:50 PM PDT by smokingfrog

The most remarkable thing about civil unrest is that there hasn't been more of it.

Politicians are making a hash of this country—and much of the rest of the civilized world. We know it. They know it. They know we know it. But we don't feel we can do anything much to stop them.

That right there is the pre-condition for civil unrest—when people are frustrated and politicians are nervous.

Worse, that was how things stood before last fall's crash. Before pols on both left and right launched the biggest mass transfer of wealth in history—transferring our wealth (what we had left of it!) to their friends on Wall Street and in the banking industry. In other words, that's how things were before things got bad!

Now everybody's talking about the ongoing catastrophe (even if we are in a momentarily sunny mood). But almost nobody is talking about the logical—maybe even inevitable—consequences of cynical or desperate politicians abusing an already fed-up populace: civil unrest.

I mean people taking to the streets. Or mass resistance. Or crackdowns because the government fears we might do something to upset its apple cart. It's going to happen. Somewhere. At some time. It's going to.

One of the few VIPs to mention the matter openly was Zbigniew Brzezinski, former National Security Advisor and the ultimate insider's insider. He commented on the millions of unemployed or soon-to-be-unemployed and the "...public awareness of this extraordinary wealth that was transferred to a few individuals at levels without historical precedent in America." He told "Morning Joe" Scarborough, "Hell, there could be even riots." I'd say that's an understatement.

Although few in power are talking about it, rumors abound that governments at many levels are planning for civil unrest.

In three days I will be going to the Philadelphia Folk Festival. Never have you seen a bastion of Leftists and their ilk. Since I started going eleven years ago, the rhetoric of the left has ratcheted upward, or should I say leftward.
In 2003 at the end of a good night of music some leftards were handing out “IMPEACH BUSH!” bumper stickers. I politely recieved it, spit upon it and stomped it into the ground. As I turned and walked away I could hear their usual left rants; “Nazi! Reactionary! Bush is a terrorist!”.
Now that “The Annointed One” is in office I anticipate a raucus time!
BTW I do go to listen to the music.[and laugh at the dhimmies]
Upon my return I shall share any interesting occurances, should anyone be interested.

Even if there were a 3rd party that could win

Quite frankly, if there isn't at least one "third" party that can win, there's really no debate at all. If you want to know what the next 40 years of "two" party rule holds for you, look at the last 40. Extrapolate.

Certainly there will be pendulum swings. But when you observe the net movement, it has been in the direction of more statism, not less, regardless of pendulum swings.

Your two parties have been in place for about 150 years. That's ample time to share the same goal : consolidation of money and power. How do they keep that going? They keep you cheering on one or the other like it was a professional football team.

Competition is one of the reasons capitalism works. I'm not sure how any capitalist could expect that politics would be any different. Limited competition leads to an inferior product. And no amount of pontificating online and making thinly veiled allusions about insurrection is going to change that or further a cause.

The way it will happen is that the cities will erupt, there will be riots and looting and burning and maybe killing. The police and firemen will desert their posts. The National guard will be called and they will not report.

The special urban forces will be called out and they will watch. There will be chaos and total disruption of city life. The good people will leave.

The government will fall. A leader will rise.

Give us a ping when you come back with your report.

You might want to keep a low profile this year.

I'm already past the cheering for R or D stage. As a matter of fact, I had to come back to that way of thinking to vote in 2000/2004. (couldn't stomach Barry or McQueeg in the last election)(don't worry, I'm in Texas)

IOWs, I've been seeing this day coming from way back.

So you think we can solve all this at the ballot box? (you never addressed the *cheaters*) And you don't want to hear *allusions* of uprising.

What the heck do you think is going to happen? where is that tipping point?

BTW: if I could get away with it, I’d tell the Pols and the *one* EXACTLY what would happen if they continue down this road. It wouldn’t be at all *veiled*.

As a matter of fact, I think someone should bring it up and lay it on the line

When do WE make OUR intentions CLEAR?

In other news, firearms and ammunition sales are through the roof...

Conclusion:

Some of us already have lines in the sand that would inspire us to resist abuses of authority. And that, right there, is something our would-be masters fear—our disobedience. What will happen? And when? Nobody has a crystal ball. But the combination of public frustration and governmental apprehension is an explosive one. Someday, somebody will light the match.

I believe you are quite right. And that “match” will be lit when the left overturns—whether by direct, or indirect means—the 2nd amendment. On that day—and it will come within the next 2-3 years—the fate of the US will be decided. Should the right to keep and bear arms go the way of our speech, property, religious and family rights, this nation and our liberty will be finished. But I don’t believe the American people will permit the United States to die with a whimper. Nor will brigades of leftist brownshirts confiscate our weapons absent the nationwide call to arms of a second American revolution.

We have been in a civil for a long time. It began in the ‘60’s. They are warring. We are civil.

Nobody knows what is going to happen. The libs hope for the green shoots and the utopia that they dream of. They fear anyone who gets in the way. We hope for avoidance of the dystopia of which the libtards dream will be the unintended consequence. Bernanke hopes he can pull back on the money supply to avoid massive deflation. Many of us are prepared for the gummint to try to confiscate firearms, we don't hope for it but there is a sense the libtards will be satisfied with their plan to continue to "boil the frog" slowly and hope to eleiminate the threat free men with arms pose to their u/dystopia.

We all have hopes and dreams but not everyone will be happy. The one outcome that will make no one happy is complete economic meltdown and a panicked gummint trying to impose law on chaos and a massive conflagration. Some of us fear it more than others.

None of us knows what stops this bus is making but for good or ill we are all on board.

It sure would be simpler and a whole lot less destructive to just walk in and arrest the Prez, his cabinet and pretty much every member of this pathetic Congress. (oh, do forget the Czars)

There is a good show on the Outdoor Channel called Best Defense. They cover certain scenarios and how to deal with them with your family. Some good tactical advice with different weapons.

Yuo left out the rest. It goes something like this:

and hang them all from gallows lining the Capitol Mall. Given the realities of our situation, the best possible outcome would follow from a military coup and a short, bloody and vicious civil war. What's needed is a reckoning and a good housecleaning. Then we might gain anothe century of relative peace and prosperity - before we have to do it all over again.

The one constant we cannot alter is human nature. It isn't so much that history 'repeats itself.' It's that human nature changes little if at all. The Greeks knew it. Shakespeare knew it. We will therefore fight these battles over and over again.
