I went out and got myself a boxed set of “Our Gang” (or The Little Rascals) before they are banned from the world. Loved that show as a kid.

Geez.....this was settled two years ago........

Whatever happened to the foghorn leghorn cartoons?

I used to grow up watching the bugs bunny, daffy duck cartoons and I haven’t seen foghorn leghorn in forever or chilly willy the penguin, droopy... I miss the old cartoons I don’t care for the crap they have now. I’m an old school kid who grew up with school house rock!

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker

Most of them had racist undertones and had to be taken off of the air. I mean, think about it...Foghorn?.......Leghorn? That is racist and people don’t put up with it any more.

Speedy got taken off due to concerns of racism; as for Foghorn, maybe it’s still on Boomerang or something (I don’t have that channel) but the old Looney Tunes cartoons were
hilarious even if they’re tough to find on TV anymore
(...but you can buy boxed sets on DVD)

The Flintstones would fit right in nowadays:
The Flintstones theme song

Flintstones. Meet the Flintstones.
They're the modern stone age family.
From the town of Bedrock,
They're a page right out of history.

Let's ride with the family down the street.
Through the courtesy of Fred's two feet.

When you're with the Flintstones
You'll have a yabba dabba doo time.
A dabba doo time.
You'll have a gay old time.

Fred & Barney, Wilma & Betty...yes, it all makes sense now...

I still call the joint “Colonel Sanders.”

The five words never spoken anymore in regards to the chain are:

1. Colonel Sanders
2. Kentucky Fried Chicken

Sort of odd, isn't it?

Racist, no. Ripoff, yes---especially since Warner Brothers copyrighted not just the cartoon image but the characterisation and vocalisation of the character, denying Kenny Delmar the right to continue his Senator Claghorn character after Fred Allen discontinued the radio show on which Delmar made the character so popular.

The Fred Allen Show: Auditions (with Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy)---Also the "Allen's Alley" debut of Sen. Claghorn . . . and Titus Moody (Parker Fennelly). (7 October 1945, NBC)

My favorite, Droopy Dog, could be seen today as having numerous racist symbols in it.

Shuffle-footed, Suth’rin drawl, that suspiciously plantation-like tune the wolf always whistled.

Is there a box set?

Interesting—at the cartoon convention IIRC Joe Harris said there was talk of getting the voice actor (M. Blanc) who did the Claghorn type voice and someone said, why not just get Kenny Delmar himself (to do The Hunter). So they did.

Not only that, look more carefully.

He’s white, yes. He’s also a redneck.

Said ‘boy’ a lot too. Also ‘kid’, and ‘son’, but let’s not cloud the issue with facts.

Cartoons went to hell about the time they cut out all the violence from the old cartoons they showed on TV. When I was a kid, they showed old WW2 propaganda cartoons killing Japs (they still called them that) and Nazis, and cartoon characters killing themselves.

Remember the black maid from the old “Tom and Jerry” cartoons (the funny, violent ones)? Now she has a “white” voice.

Then there’s the accent. Probably reminds people of George W. Bush. And we all know what a racist he is.
